Dursley Pedersen - could there be a race bike version?

this is just one i saw on ebay
no it isn;t mine
just a pretty good example

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=261015409770&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en

is it essential to have the handlebars up so high?

what about a regular saddle instead of the swinging hammock?

just thinking

these bikes were 20 lbs back in 1901 when everything else was 35

seems like the space frame design could be even lighter if the front end weren;t so high up

or is that essential to the concept?

anyone ever done anything like that?

there have been 'race versions' but as far as i know they are the same geometry, just lighter tubes or something

The 'suspended saddle design' is a COMFORT factor, a big deal in Pedersen's heyday; why would there be a 'race' version of something so NOT intended for intense riding?

It was (is) a GENTLEMAN'S design, not a racer's.

a. because now saddles work better

b. ok it WAS a gentleman bike, now i want a race bike with same idea, that would be a NEW design :)

There was , back in the Victorian, day, handlebars fitted further down the fork..
Fork front saddle sling mount point, which was still high up on the top of the fork.

still some in Museums,, maybe the Nijmegan NL one?

Copenhagen replica builder may have shut down site at www.pedersenbicycle.dk (http://www.pedersenbicycle.dk).
