Hey C&V Gang,

Working on my grandfather's 1937 CCM today, trued the front wheel and started lacing the rear. Grabbed the new 28 x 1 1/2 tire and put it on the rim, hmmm this fits really loosely. Try to seat it onto the bead but no way, these new tires appear to be at least a 1/4" larger in diameter than the rim's total diameter. I look at the old tires to make sure that I didn't make a mistake, nope, 28 x 1 1/2". What gives here?

Are 28" tires and/or wheels from 75 years ago not the same diameter as they are now? Did the measuring tapes we use today grow along with our waists?

Anyone know where I can get some "28" tires for a 1937 CCM?

Any wisdom would be appreciated.
Darren

Thanks Sailorbenjamin, I should have checked Sheldon Brown's site before asking. Will have to give that a try
