I noticed that when I push myself on a ride home that I am a furnace when I go to bed. It doesn't happen when I take a general ride to get in a few miles but when I push to the point that have mentally done. And just so you know that's how far I like to push myself as I know I didn't leave much on the table.

Do you think this is because my metabolism is in overdrive and generating the heat?

One thing I have not done is to just stand in the shower with cool water to make sure I've cooled down my core but I would think that by the time I get to bed (a few hours later) the core would have cooled by then.

Any type of extended exercise does this to me as well. I think it is pretty normal.

Your metabolism is up, and you're "feeling the burn".
Lactic acid build-up in the muscles.

I enjoy when I have a good solid run/ride that does that to me.

Are you thirsty and have cotton mouth at the same time when you feel like a furnace in bed?

I take a lot of my rides at night. Typically, I can't sleep until I could down for about an hour.

Nope. Urine isn't darker than expected either. Of course after a hard ride you can always use "more water" generally speaking I'm as hydrated as I expect to be.

I'm getting this a lot lately...right now actually, and all I did was an easy spin into the office this morning.

I might go sit outside and call my mom, it her birthday, she's around 66 million years old*.

* - family joke is she can't parallel park because she took driving test on triceratops.

My favorite is the my dad is so old that when he was in school his history book was a three-foldy pamphlet.

Welcome to my world every night do matter if I exercise or not... it is probably most likely a metabolism problem or hormonal or what you ate for dinner or...?

I'm not a doctor, nor do I pretend to be one on TV, so take this however YOU want to, and I can not be held liable, but in my experience in finding out I was a Type II Diabetic, 3 of my symptoms (among others) were:

1. over heating at night while sleeping, and sometimes waking up drenched in pools of sweat
2. being thirsty in the middle of the night
3. having cotton mouth in the middle of the night

These did not happen every night, and I did not correlate it to any particular activity, like working out before hand. But they did occur more than once a week. And I was working out when I was diagnosed. These could be effecting you as I believe blood sugar levels do change, and do change more drastically depending on the level of activity exertion you do. Hence, why maybe only experiencing these after pushing yourself on a ride, and not after a "normal" ride.

Since getting better control of my diabetes, these symtpons have all gone away. Its been months since I have had any of these at night, outside of being warm while cooling down from a workout immediately before bed.

I would check your blood sugar, during the day and at night when you experience your symptoms. Best case, you find out it is not blood sugar related. Worse case, you find out it might be blood sugar related and seek real medical advice and work to manage it. Finding out I have Type II Diabetes was one of the best things that could have happened to me from a healthy life and fitness perspective. Life is better now, energy levels higher, health better, stamina better, physique better, mood better, and on and on, even though I live with and am managing diabetes daily.

I will respect your tv persona and pay attention to this. I'm due to get a checkup soon anyway so I should just make that appointment. Thanks for the advice.

Also Sleep apnea can cause night sweats as can other diseases. Before I lost 100 lbs; I had severe Sleep Apnea; we are talking a very low heart rate; like start CPR heart rate when I trained as an EMT (Sub 40 bpm) and a resperation rate of 5/min (norm is 18-20). yeah I was a dead man when I slept. I wife said she would come to bed after I was asleep and would wonder if I was going to start breathing any time soon!!!!
