View Full Version : Clydes on Carbon Fiber

OK, so if you see a carbon fiber bike leaned up against a wall at a rest stop, be sure it doesn't belong to a clyde before lean your steal bike up against the derailleur side of his carbon fiber bike cause he's going to shout at you!:D

Happened to me on Sunday. Chilling at the stop when some dude rolls up and leans his bike up against my strategically placed up against the wall bike.

I see the dude lean his bike on mine so I jump up then shout:

Beanz~ DON'T LEAN YOUR BIKE UP AGAINST MINE. ESPECIALLY ON THE REAR DERAILLEUR!!

Dude~ Oh, I'm sorry , I didn't see it.:o

Beanz~ You didn't see my bike there? :notamused:

Dude~ No. :o * takes bike and walks away like the heel that he is* :D

Don't......DO IT! :D

Nah, Beanz has a Trek. Obviously it looks like wall paper. :roflmao2:

But seriously, who does that? I don't care WHAT your bike is made of. Give him the cinzano treatment, assuming you don't use CO2 cartridges.

Speaking of bikes, got my slightly larger cassette and slightly smaller crank chainring installed, I think I"m ready for some hill climbing. ;) Smallest gear is now a 36/28, which should be sufficient. I didn't even use it today on my test hill.

My bike club leans bikes up together during breakfast stops (6 bikes deep) and we use a long cable to lock the stacks of bikes all together.
Afterwards, the speed or cadence sensors on my bike end up "adjusted" too far from the magnets so I either have to make a "technology" stop or do without my computer for the rest of the ride.
It can't just be my bike that people are careless with, ??? wtf. Nobody else seems to have an issue.

Invariably my bike ends up next to a 50# beater with its pedals stuck into my c/f wheel spokes.

People! I don't care what you ride, but have some respect for people who take good care of their stuff.

Listen - I'm riding a previously loved, 2007 vintage specialized roubaix. It's yoosed. I don't care, it's my baby. Built it up from scratch my own special self. You mess with it and you better be a bad-ass because I won't take it well.

I think I would go ballistic if someone leaned their bike up against mine like that. this thread makes me think of the "don't sit on another persons motorcycle w/o permission" rule....

the motorcycle rule is obviated by a hot chick wearing assless chaps. Just saying. I'm sure I have the picture somewhere... (walks off muttering)

OK, but tell me you're not agreeing on the rest of it because, well, I don't want to know.

But I digress - Mr. Beanz' bike is very sharp and deserves not to be messed with.

I'm not one of those "don't derail my thread" people. The more posts, the more comments, the more entertainment, that's why I am here, it certainly aint for the money!:D

Zactly! :thumb: Heck, my 98 Cannondale is in good shape and I get just as PO'd if some monkey touches it.:D

you cant blame the dude, he didnt see your bike there, obviously you need more blinky lights and reflective tape, maybe a siren...

Or a nice specialized bike.

Just saying.

I had someone sitting on the fence where my bike was chained and he had one foot on the seat(can you imagine the anger!) and on on the frame.

He didn't find his footing when I casually tipped him over the other side, I dnt recommend it though because I got into a hell of a lot of hassle with police for it. Same goes for ppl that sit on one of my motorbikes, especially with one foot on the exhaust or their f**king chicken a chips on a very expensive tank!!!!

I think a infrared proximity sensor attached to a Tazer might make a nice bike accessory. Wait, better start my patent application before I post this...

Lol I threatened to kill my own son when he leaned his bike with the pedal going through my spokes, up against my carbon bike.

But he is 14 and hopefully trainable. Grown ups should know better.

what i took from the beanz story is now that he has a carbon bike he has become elitist.

I'd be pretty livid if this happened to me. But I know that, and it's made me just paranoid enough that it wouldn't happen to me.

I stop a lot on my rides. Enjoy the scenery, stretch my shoulders, water a tree, etc. But I almost never lean the bike up against something and walk away. If I'm going to sit on a bench and take in the view, the bike either lies down on the ground nearby, or leans up against me. It takes a nap in the grass if I have to pee. If I'm only stopping for a moment, I'll stand the bike up and hold the saddle.

One time I had stopped at a restaurant and leaned my bike against the fence around the outdoor seating area, with one of the drops over the metal fence so my bike wouldn't get knocked over. While I was waiting to order, somebody tied their dog to the fence. I left immediately, before the dog had a chance to run at some other dog or pedestrian and pull the fence, knocking it into my bike. I think that's the closest I've come to Beanz's story.

You didn't know that carbon=elitist? What steel bike frame have you been hiding under? lol

It wasn't like I walked away. This is where I lean my bike and where I sit so it's in view. I'm a little bigger than Gina and I was standing so how he didn't seen me or the bike...........:D

True, my carbon is the TCT and hers is the OCLV.:D

OCLV is the stuff made in the US , the TCT is like Tijuana or something.:p

But I lean my bikes hb's to saddle so there is no frame contact. ;)

Don't turn your back, you might end up with little Treks pedaling around.

Say, where do you guys water up when you get to the beach? Is there anything to the right (north) that won't require you to get out on the street? I think last time we got out on PCH and headed south about a block or two and there's a tiny park with a public restroom.

Mr. Beanz
05-04-12, 07:41 PM
We do the little horse shoe under pch, then head toward seal beach on the path only for about 100 yards to the facility in the pic and my vids.

To Gina's left, there is a water fountain and a wash basin. To her right, another water fountain on the beach path next to the shower.

We used to ride down pch but too much traffic that I don't want Gina around.:D

TrojanHorse
05-04-12, 08:26 PM
Cool, I think I'll rewater there tomorrow. I'm going to do the yorba to the beach and back to see what's what. :)

I remember when every race bike had chips on the downtube from where the downtube shifters of some other race bike had been leaned against your downtube.

But I also remember when the average cyclist wasn't a latte sipping A-hole who worried about minor cosmetic damage to his race bike.

Which makes me old, I guess.

Stack about 4 together, throw some butter and syrup at them and you have all the fiber you need for breakfast...

Beanz, the guy was probably working for some other candidate in the SART mayoral race. Maybe they were hoping to get a reaction out of you or something. Some bad PR for Beanz, and the next thing you know, we have a new mayor. But don't worry, I'll still vote for you.

Hahaha! I've had riders park near us and listen to every little thing I say. I often think they are forum members. I had another member in the Socal forum say that he saw me at the rest stop but didn't say a thing cause he tends to be a little sarcastic and he sensed that I'd put him in his place if he had said the wrong thing. Meh! I'm not mean when I want to be nice.:D

But I don't put it passed any of the riders I encounter.:p
