So I'm looking to find a road bike in a decent price range. This is more of a feeler I guess. I'm pretty broke right now but I have seen this bike drop in price twice. I dont really know much about Fuji bikes so figured I would look to the experts here for some help. Does this seem like a fair deal?

Actually, that does look like a pretty good deal. Fuji is a perfectly fine brand. Those are lower end Shimano components but if it's the Tiagra without the thumb button for shifting then it's OK.

Is that size right for you? Explain why you're so poor and offer him $500. What the heck. :)

Do you have a child you can offer as part payment ? or a body part

Bike is the right size, I'm 5'6". A large local chain here has a big sale every April at an expo center and I test rode a bunch of bikes on trainers, 52 seemed to feel the best to me. 54 being pretty close as well. I probably wont have the cash for a couple more weeks but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere at this point. My luck would dictate that the week I have cash in hand, is the week that the deal is sold.

No children and I'm rather partial to most of my body parts :)

Well, it's craigs list - nothing but cash.

Seriously, if that bike disappears there will be more. Don't get attached to it. And if he doesn't take your $500, make sure he has your number and head back to your lair to watch CL some more.

At $500 it would be a good deal. New in spite of the suggested retail price, you could probably get it for about $700.

I wouldn't pay a dime over $500 for it, probably offer $450. You can buy a brand new one from Nashbar for a penny less than what he wants for a used bike-Linky (http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/ProductDisplay?storeId=10053&langId=-1&catalogId=10052&productId=537449)

And they have the 52 in stock.

But, is this the type bike you want. Seems to be a "race" geometry. Is this what you want? Compact crank? Nothing wrong with either, unless you're settling just because you think it's a good deal. If these are compromises, I'm sure there are other offerings (or will be) that are exactly what you're looking for. And there is NOTHING wrong with newer Tiagra!

Wow, thanks for the heads up at Nashbar. I wouldn't have even thought about being able to get a 2 year old bike new. That sure does change a lot in this scenario.

SO call the dude, explain that it's new for 650 and offer him $400.

Buy the new one if he doesn't see reason!

There's usually a good amount of clearance bikes out there, unfortunately for me the 55-58's are usually not the ones remaining. LBS's sometimes will have some carry-overs or have some special purchase towards the end of the year (usually late summer or early fall) from the distributors if they have any bikes left that weren't picked up by retailers.

I seem to be in a perpetual search. Like I said in my original post, times are tight, but if that was a good deal I may have pulled the trigger. Seems now, that it's back to the drawing board and keeping an eye out on CL. Not too may affordable bikes here listed in my size, so when I see them I get to thinking. Maybe if that one is still around in a while when I actually have cash in hand I'll throw an offer at him and see what shakes out.

Thanks for the advice and info everybody.
