After riding about my neighborhood for the last couple of weeks...a couple miles here, a couple miles there, getting my butt used to a bike saddle again, I took off this morning to just ride. Hilly, of course, I'm in Seattle, but I just plugged away, slow as molasses with a big, stupid grin on my face. Got down to the waterfront. It was really quite lovely (and mercifully flat). Rode back uphill. My legs started complaining, so I stopped & had a light lunch while people watching. Then home. 9 miles round trip. I'm sure I'll be a little sore tomorrow, but I'll go for a short, really spinny ride to work out the kinks. Happy.

Thank you! It's all part of the Master Plan (get healthy, lose weight, corral this type 2 diabetes, ride a bike as much as possible). If there's a Clyde on this forum from Seattle with a baby blue helmet, I saw you this morning!

Like you, I was all excited when I started. First with 5 miles! Then 10, now I am doing 20-25 a day! Today is the first day I have taken off in 10 days. Only because I went motorcycle riding and got back too late, but the old legs need a rest day now and then. The most I have done in a single ride is 50 miles. This was at the beach, where the road is flat. I pump a lot of hills around here.

Keep it up, it only gets BETTER!!!

That sounds like me when I started. Progress is good. Keep it up and increase the distance as much as you are comfortable with. I did 35 miles yesterday, with 3400 ft elevation gain. It took me over a yer toi get here. Keep it up, and be patient, and you may get as hooked as I am.

The marker is where I got off the Amtrak, Mile five is where I met the group. Mile nineteen is where I split from the group at their rest stop, and rode to another Amtrak station for the ride home.

I like riding with this club, because the rides my local club in San Diego do are even hillier, and I still have a way to go before I can keep up with them.

It'll get easier pretty quickly.

One thing I believe in is to ride some everyday, even if it's only around the block so to speak. It helps keep you from reverting backwards as much.

Keep up the hard work. Cycling has gotten me off all my meds (diabetes, HBP, Kidney,Acid Reflux and the stupid Cpap). All gone. You can do it!

A great goal and I'm partway there, myself. The doc took me off of one of two BP meds early this year. The one that was actually doing something. My BP is now directly related to how much I've been riding. I'll probably always use a CPAP, but the exercise certainly improves the condition.

i'm likin' to die here.....rodneys don't do well uphill. i should get one of those
portable defib units...be my luck i'd either get overzapped or no-one would
know how to even turn it on (SNORT!)

i use a cpap and love it.
