My apologies. I'm not really partial to Colnagos, so I seize every opportunity to deliver a cheap shot when I can! I think they are quite over the top, but I respect your opinion and your riding experience. Let me rephrase.... I hope your Ciocc will make you forget all about that Colnago!

I hope it does to. Paid a little more than I wanted and I hope it is worth the money. The paint is a little scratched but I can take care of that. Not really sure of the route I'm gonna go with the rebuild

I'm not sure what in the heck "over the top" has to do with ride quality - which is in any case a pretty subjective thing.

Perhaps overrated would have been a better word. Agree that ride quality is subjective, one of the points I was making with my post.

Agree - but many of the people who think they're overrated rave about the way they ride. As I said, ride quality is very subjective. I sometimes think Ciocc's have become somewhat overrated here, too - the really special ones are the earlier ones. Also, I don't know what year the OP's Colnago is from. If it's, say, from '71-73, for example, it may not be overrated at all. Odds are it's not that early, but just saying.

Colnagos do have their loyalists, no question about it. I agree about the early ones being the best. I remember when you could always see a Ciocc coming available every month or so and then it seemed to me that they became a bit scarce. I've never ridden one although I must confess to having lusted after them at one time.

Well, I hope the Ciocc is as nice as the Colnago. Ride quality is most definitely subjective and when one finds a bike that treats the rider to a consistently great ride, there is no substitute for that! That's really what it's all about!

Exactly. A '79-80 colnago is one of those bikes that was outsourced and can be sketchy in terms of build quality (or not - the culprit is inconsistency), but also one of those bikes many people love to ride. I think the overrating comes when they go for prices that can get you a bike that would maybe ride as nicely but be better finished and more distinctive and also a bit less common. I own a '79, and just bought a '78 that is currently at my LBS for some tweaking.

Does it say "Colnago" on the seatstay caps? That bike is probably closer to 1982, with the "Colnago" in the chainstays and the under-BB cable routing.

That's very nice sloar! I could actually see myself on that bike! SL tubing and very little bling. Looks like a very nice ride.

Colnago's only started to get really blingy in about 1983 and beyond - with the exception of some of the early Mexicos.
