my only guess would be getting rid of a kickstand plate.

or just taking out a little anger.

oh! or getting rid of those ugly hook shaped cable guides that some 80s frames have on the top of the BB shell.

That's my guess as well.

Yeah its gotta be those ugly little things. They are on the top and bottom of the bb on my friends colnago that she turned fixie. They ruin the look of the bike

My guess is also the cable guide. Old school frames had the long curvy guide on top of the BB shell to send the cabe back to the driveside chainstay to the rear der.

YIKES! dude I use a dremel-tool with a carbon cutting disc for that kind of stuff....I'd never trust my fumbling hands with large grinder on a bicycle frame....

oh and my guess is your cutting into the face plate of the BB? (as stated before)...?
Possibly because you ruined it by using some other over-kill tool to adjust/remove/install said BB in question?

(I've did something similar once....)

It seems that you are cutting into the BB-shell.

I suppose that you are attempting to shorten your bottom-bracket shell slightly for the purpose of getting a better chainline?

From the angle of the grinder, the position of your knee and the length of your hair, I'm guessing you have no clue either and prior to this picture, you and some friends had been drinking in the presence of someone's bike and a big ol' grinder.

Can I take my 15 points over 15 days or do I have to take a lump sum of 15 minutes?

my first thought was shortening the bb, but looking back at it, i'm going with cutting off the cable guides, which makes me kinda sad if it's true.

i was just looking at boutiquey road frames the other day for building up a touring bike, and one builder was complaining about how they wanted to use those top-mounted cable guides, but they couldn't find the right fittings for it.

We have a winner. Yes, I'm grinding off those ugly cable guides with an angle grinder. They came off easily with the grinder and now the bike looks much cleaner. I was able to hand file all the other braze-ons a few months ago, but the tight spacing surrounding the guide did not allow me to hand file them.

700x23C Vredestein Volante. Nashbar (I think it was Nahsbar. It could have been Performance though.) had them on sale for something like $12.50 a while back. I snapped them up and couldn't be happier. Really nice tire so far.

And what of those tires.

I probably would have used a dremel if I had one. I was really careful with the angle grinder and it seemed to work fine. I have a couple of extra grind spots, but they're pretty minor. I plan to pick up a dremel in the future to make clean up work a little easier. It's so tough to hand file or sand anything in the BB region because of the confined space.

What are you doing? Upsetting your poor mum by not using appropriate eye protection.

No, no. I've got goggle on. I wouldn't use an angle grinder without goggles. Angle grinders really spit out some nasty debris.

And another correct answer. I probably don't have much of a clue as to what I'm doing. Also, being that I live in a small apartment without many tools or a workshop, things can look a little awkward.

I've been told that it's a mid-80's Bianchi Super Turismo or Campione Del Italia (Japanese lugged steel)

See above for the tire info.
