General Cycling Discussion - what frame is best for me.
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
im purchasing a new bike for street parks and dirt jumping and i have two options. the kona shonky for 900$ or the rocky mountain flow 2 for 900$. both are newer frames (2011 or 2012) and both have hydro breaks and 26" tires as well as the same warranties.. im slightly taller and heavier at 6'2" @ 260lbs. what would the best frame for me be. im leaning towards the flow because of its boxed tube style frame and looks stronger. the shonky i was looking at looked way thinner then the flow 2 but im still not sure what one is the best.
thanks for any help.

Welcome To Bike Forums, Abduct!
The Kona Shonky is made of chromoly steel while the Rocky Mountain Flow1 is made of aluminum.
Aluminum can be designed and constructed to be a very strong bicycle frame material. Many BMX cyclists who race, actually prefer aluminum frames over chromoly steel frames. However, most BMXers who do many tricks and jumps, realize the abuse and punishment that they'll subject their BMX bicycle frames to, and the overwhelming majority of them would much prefer the natural genuine strength of a chromoly framed bicycle.
okay thanks slimrider. i would of thought the boxed frame would be slightly stronger because it has more welding surface to it but i totally forgot to think about the materials being used!
i think i will go pickup the shonky today then. thanks for your input.
