You know how when you make a credit card purchase you are asked to sign for it. Does it really matter? I think not.

I had the 'Please Check ID' on the back of my card. One lady refused my purchase until I signed the back of the card. I think it was at the Post Office. Anyways, I tried arguing and she wouldn't budge, so I grabbed a blue permanent marker, and drew a crappy scrawl of my name. She was happy and I was dumbfounded. Now my card has a 'Check ID' and next to it some blue scrawl.

Post Office Lady is legendary for checking signatutes. My card front had name listed as Red E Baron. On back I had signed "ask for ID" - She wouldn't take it. So I signed "Red Baron" She politely but smugly said it didn't match Red E Baron. Soooo - I put in a big E. She then proceeded to tell me signature was not legible - too much writing, so I gave her a $100 bill for a $5 postage. She asked if I had anything smaller. Said NOPE. She went to back office to get change. Now I always go into Post Office with a $100 bill, often for a single stamp. Course I give her my card first which she still won't take. BTW- I checked local 'laws' one can put 'Ask for ID' on card and store can check Drivers License. But not this woman!

How funny!

I must live in the land of signature nazis. I would never get away with those.

Most clerks check my signature against my driver's license. They hold it up, look at me, look at my driver's license. I'm glad I look like my driver's license photo.

Every once in a while, I use a credit card that's in my wife's name. Although we have very different first names, we coincidentally share the same rather unique last name.

Some clerks ask if I'm using my wife's card. I just smile and say "Yes, is that OK?" It usually is.

Some just look at me, open their mouths and finish the transaction.

A few have refused to finish the transaction.

I have had "see ID" on the back of my cards for years, and the best story I have is one time in rural north tennessee (Big South Fork area) I had stopped at a local store to get something to drink and gave them my card and the cashier looked at the back and turned to the cashier at the nest lane and asked "It says 'see ID' on it, what do I do?" and the other cashier response was just run it. I just gave my cashier the eat **it look and left. It really does not matter, as long as it clear they dont care.

A former manager of mine used to give us his credit card to go get donuts. His picture is on the front of the card. He's about 5'4 and Hispanic. I'm 5'9 and white. The other coworker was 5'6, white and female. We never had any problems whatsoever with using the card.

My wife and I both have "Ask for ID" on the backs of our cards. It's rare that anyone ever asks. When they do ask, I always thank them.

I used to have a part time job in Sears.

Person comes in with a card that I did not think was his, I asked for ID he told me it was his grandmas card and gave me major attitude about it.

So I very kindly cut the card in half and handed it back to him informing him that if he had any complaints I would quite happily call the police.

What was funnier the customers in line all pulled out ID to pay for their purchases without me having to ask.

Whn using one of the electronic signature capture machines, just hit the OK without actually signing. Should go right through.
