Classic & Vintage - Are there brand name bike accessory knock-offs?

Are there knock-offs of brand name bike accessories like Christophe toe clips and straps for Campagnolo Superleggeri pedals or any other items?

Very few that I know of. Some Campy toe clips with the narrow bottom that sort of goes into a slot on the pedal are the same as those found on some Ofmega and Avocet pedals, but I'm not aware of many others. I actually think the Ofmega and Avocet clips show Christophe...

There are some more "universal" toe clips, etc, that work on a myriad of pedals.

I see very few actually knock offs. But a see a lot off cheaply made Chinese copies of poor quality with similar looking but not identical branding they are very good at getting close but not close enough to to go against copy rights or patents they look like the real thing but are cheap junk.

Why bother with what? Sorry, I must have missed something.

I sold a pair of Ofmega Sintesi pedals for just that reason: the buyer wanted the toe clips for some Campy pedals. The Sintesi's were actually better pedals, in my view, but it brought together a project for him.

It's not about the cost.

Ifit's not about cost, well then: on auction sites here a lot of chrome no name or mks toeclips show up, remarkably similar to christophe. Lbs's still stock them for old coots, too, replete with straps. I tried a set, and te cages are fine, no difference in function. The straps on the other hand are a bit thicker than your brand name ones, and they are a pain to get through a pair of campy record pedals. Cosmetically they are not as nice, but the buckles are solid.

So you want knock offs to finish your project, or...?

I must have misspoke. When I said it wasn't about the cost, I meant I want to get it right. I was only asking if there are bike accessory knockoffs as a curiosity not for any other reason.

i would assume you meant "counterfeit" when using the word "knockoff", a "copy" is something made to look a lot like (exactly like) another item but not meant to misrepresent the original.

Zeus made tons of "copies" of Campagnolo designed components for example. i can't think of any "knockoffs" of any manufacturer's components, by that i mean, i've not seen anything made by some factory in China and subsequently labelled as Campagnolo.

You can buy a watch with the Rolex name on it that is not a real Rolex. That would be a knock-off. Counterfeit or knock-off one would still end up with a product that is not the genuine thing. That was my only reason for asking the question. I was was shopping for a pair of Christophe toe clips and straps. I found some that are not only NOS but were brand new looking and that's what motivated my asking the question.

There are some really nice knockoffs out there these days, some of which are better than the original product. If you're looking for stuff that is for the Raleigh, I'd say copies are fine since you're refinishing the bike. OTOH, if you're talking about the Paramount, I'd be very selective so as to get the aesthetic correct, even if the part isn't period correct.

Thanks for the input. I am talking about the Paramount in this particular case. I was looking at a set of Christophe toe clips and straps that were not only NOS but looked like they were made yesterday. LOL
