Yesterday I did the first 30 miles of a planned 50 mile ride in 90 minutes flat. This was possible since all but eight miles was on MUP, and I caught very few signals on the street portions. Since this included two short rest stops totaling about five minutes, my moving speed average was over 15mph. Even though I was not pushing hard, and was nose-breathing for most of it, I was starting to have difficulty maintaining a 15 mph pace at about mile 38, and turned back to make the ride a total of just over 43 miles.
That last was a planned contingency since I was "racing a train". The end of the ride was an Amtrak station at ~mile 32, and the plan was to turn back at a specific time, if I hadn't reached the far point of mile 41 by then.

Does not compute. If you completed the first thirty miles in 90 minutes including a five minute stop, then your moving average for that time would be over 21mph, not 15mph.

That was written before the first morning coffee
2 hrs.
Max speed was about 33 mph, and the first ten I was cruising easily at 17-20. I chose to ride the train to Orange County to do my little time trial due to the accessibly of a flat, fifty mile route mostly free of car traffic.
