Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Replacements for the manufacturer's logo, on your fixie

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Have you painted over or removed the original writing from the manufacture, on your bike, and replaced it with messages or designs of your own? If so, what does your tubular shingle say? If you fantasize about doing this, but could never mar the paint on your bike, what would you put on it?

I'm not sure what I'm going to put on the new bike that I'm getting later this week, but I was thinking about "my other car is a bike", or "I eat hummers for breakfast"

Decals that are cleared over pretty much drive me up the wall.

I've seriously been thinking about spraying over all the Specialized logos on my Langster.

But if I am going to do that, I might as well just take it apart and spray the whole frame. And well, most of my painting projects end up being pretty brutal due to my impatience.

i removed most of the decals on my new frame recently (i left the continental sponsership ones on the seat tube and the ambrosia puddings one on the top tube cos i like the way they look). i then tried to get my own stickers made up, however trying some of the local print shops in soho i found the prices way too high. what i would like to know is if there is a place to get your own decals (you supply the design) made up for cheap. someone posted an internet site a few months ago but they only did runs of 100 or more.

When I repainted the Basso, I just gave it a general sanding before putting on the primer. All the writing on the frame was painted on, so there weren't any decals to remove. Since then I have put a Basso chainstay guard on for no good reason other than I like how it's designed, and have added text of my own in two places. On the top of the stem I have ”でんかつ” and on the left fork blade "がんばります."

I was thinking that I wanted mine to look really nice, so I was thinking inquiring at sign shops, to see if they could paint something on. Many signs are hand lettered, I believe, and this might be done quickly, and cheeply. Once I have the bike, and shop around, I'll let you know what I find out.

there's a place called "correct impression" who make A4 size rub ons for like £15, they also make mock-ups for various packaging etc. used be in holborn near British Museum, but they've moved somewhere. try searching on the web.

If my junior college asian languages course serves me correctly, ”でんかつ” means "Where's my pie, biatch!" and "がんばります" means "Put that pie in my stash pocket, biatch!"

Just cover the "i" and the "z" in specialized and it'll read " Special ed" .

The IRO decals are pretty wack anyway.

Yeah. I love my IRO but I wasn't too fond of the graphics. Removed the down tube, and chainstay stickers as well as the cheesy head-badge sticker. My current sticker selection isn't terribly original ("One F***ing Speed" on one chainstay, "drunkcyclist.com" on the other, and "One Less Car" on the top tube.), but it works for now.

Still looking for a good "head-badge" sticker.

I think I might have a pretty good answer to getting custom graphics on your frames... As long as your going to clear coat over, this should work. I'll do my best to explain.

Heres a particular company, Psyco Cat Productions: http://pcp.darkcutter.com/index.php -i know theres other companys that do it as well.

Basically they do custom transfer graphics or 'rub downs' ((graphic design students out there might know what these are)). We use them in packaging design classes to apply graphics bottles and such. heres an example for a vodka bottle i designed: http://209.208.179.233/public/portfolio_file.asp?user_id=72000&increment=false&order_no=3&t=

the big 'A' is a gold transfer, and the 'Alchemist golden vodka' text is a black transfer. Your digital file is applied to a clear thin plastic sheet, and then adhesive is applied behind the graphics, and then you apply the graphics by rubbing them down onto your surface (as they remove from the plastic sheet). its like old rub on letters... Its all hand done by a guy named Randy. Great job too. Just a disclaimer... the transfers aren't the easiest things to work with, especially around a curve, but with some practice and patience, you can get great results. (The 'A' mentioned above, curves around the front and side of the bottle.)

i figure if your going to clear coat over it, these image transfer graphics would work great.

Randy at Psyco Cat here in the Bay area is who i've used over the past couple of years to get these graphics done. He does great work, and the prices aren't bad for what your getting. He can do single spot colors, or even composites of multiple colors, they just cost more. Ignore the pricing on the website, it doesn't make any sense. Basically pricing starts around $27 for a 3"x4" sheet (and you can fit as much as you want on the sheet) up to $42 for an 8x10 and $75 for a 12x18. He even does foil transfers!

Ok. hope you all get the picture. PM me with questions or i can reply to posts as well. there might be companys like Psyco Cat in your area as well. below is an example of how the transfer come.

No, it's a 70's Univega painted safety orange. It was a toss-up between that sticker and "F#sk Bush", I guess I should have picked the later to avoid the stupid comments.

Last I checked there was no formal originality requirement for stating one's feelings.

Two more ideas for the cross tube:
1.Suck this otto
2.Honk for world domination

As my wife would not like my kids seeing the first, I thought I'd go with the later.

My friend James feels the same way about Shimano that I do but found that Shimano shoes were the only ones that fit him. So he painted the 'ma' in name shimano black and carefully replaced the 'm' with a 't'...... "sh1t no" . I thought that was cute.
