My son came by this morning. His wife wanted to get back on her bike for Mother's Day and their kiddie trailer wouldn't attach to his carpet fiber road bike very well. He wanted the Felt beater bike that my grandson and I pieced together from our various family spares. The only things I bought new for that bike was handlebar tape and tires.

While he was here, he also mentioned that he and his wife would like to try our unused Santana tandem so I expect that to go shortly.

A different grandson's wife is in need of a bike. Fortunately for her, I happen to have a lightly used Schwinn Frontier that I rescued from the dumpster.

All tolled, that will bring me down to 3 diamond frame beaters of various types, a SWB recumbent, Mrs. Grouch's tadpole trike and the Screamer recumbent tandem. Don't have any interest in another bike at this time but - well - you know how it goes.

Oh - we met the son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter at a local park for a short ride. Life doesn't get any better than that. Happy Mother's Day!

I had a bike that I recovered from a neighbours skip a bout 5 years ago. Checked it out and it was fine- even if it was a lowly manufacturer- old style and shimano 3 speed hub. The bike was perfect. It sat in the shed and I kept trying to find a new owner for it with no success.

Then last year I had it out on the lawn while cleaning the shed out and my daughter came round. She Poo-Pooed the bike and every thing was wrong with it. I explained that this was how when I was young- most bikes were this style and they were great. Went indoors for a cup of tea and after 10 minutes she came and asked how you change gear on it. She had ridden it round the garden in high gear and just wanted to see if any of the gears were low enough for her. 30 minutes later and she rode it home.

Only another 3 to lose and it will be the bikes I ride in the shed and no more.

I've not only heard that before, I've said that before. We'll see.

I read Stapfam last comment and thought "Who's he trying to kid" :)

Sounds like N-3 keeps the family close. A good trade IMO.
