It's cycling related - I can ride longer, breathe deeper, and flirt with more confidence at coeds on their bikes.

I quit smoking March 14, 2012. Tomorrow I start my third smoke free month. I've saved over $335 on cigarettes I haven't purchased, and I would have smoked over 1,200 cigarettes in that time. Makes my head spin thinking about that.

If you're smoking, quit. That's my "tip 'o the day." :D

Are you going to buy Mrs. Jones a nice present with the money that you saved?

Keep at it - it is such a hard thing to do. :thumb:

$335 in two months? Let's see, that buys a lot of bike gear :D

Wow. Congrats on the accomplishment! I've never smoked, so I have no real knowledge of how hard it is to quit. I know it is a tough addiction to quit, however. Keep up the good work. As previously suggested, that's a lot of cash you can now spend on fun bike stuff! (Also addicting, but some addictions are good ones to have.)

Do be careful as you probably already discovered, food tastes so much more intense and tastes better than when you smoked. Easy to gain pounds after quitting--this is not from personal experience, but from anecdotes friends have told me. I did smoke as a early teen, but almost nothing. One pack would last a whole week, but stopped soon after and never smoked cigarettes again.

I bet you feel that it's so much easier to breathe.

Way to go Digital Gee!!! Hope you can keep it up

Wife and I quit back in 1978. She did the one step at a time filters, I cold turkeyed out of 3 packs a day to none the next. Lot easier back then, firmly convinced there are way more chemicals in them nowadays.

You, and the people that love you are so lucky. I also quit after a 38 year habit. I reacquainted myself with cycling, and now tour. I can do a fully loaded 100 mile day. Yet, would rather do the 60 miles so I have more time to smell roses. I have choices in life again. Congrats and enjoy.

Smelling good is almost as important as Lookin' Good.

Don't let your guard down, DG.

March 15 1988. I had smoked for 13 years. Can you believe that when I quit, everyone was complaining about a buck and a half a pack?

This is a quite amazing rundown on the impacts of nicotine withdrawal. Actually an amazing drug as far as weight loss and blood sugar control is concerned, too bad it is so addictive.

Congrats, getting away from cigarettes is the hardest thing I have ever done. Pretty soon you won't notice breathing at all, that's the way it's supposed to be!

Congrats on quitting smoking. You'll enjoy your time with Mrs. Jones even more, now that you won't get out of breath on your rides. I quit cold-turkey 43 years ago after being a two pack a day smoker. Hard to quit, very ... worth it, absolutely!

Keep up the VERY good work.
At $167.50 per month, that's $2010 per year(+/-), not chump change. That's some nice upgrades, or an addition to your stable.
After 80 or so years of history of proof that smoking is so bad, I find it stunning that anybody would smoke at all.
Keep doing what your doing.

Good job. Now the hard part, staying quit. I can't tell you how many times I "quit" smoking before I finally stopped. I am coming up in 8 years now.

Don't take that first puff!

Wow! I can't believe what people pay for suicide sticks nowadays. I quit in '79, soon after the first time I saw cigs selling for $1 a pack in machines. I was paying about 75 cents a pack in cartons and it seemed like a fortune.

Congratulations! :thumb: Keep it up.

Good for you Gee!! I sat and figured up for someone one time at their present rate of smoking at cigarette priced like 5 years ago what it cost for a lifetime of smoking and it was somewhere around $300,000!! Today that would be a LOT higher. That is a ton of change......in more respect than just $$. Way to go. And when you think about having another just think of the money you save and you will never smoke again!

Thank you all for your kind comments and support. As many have observed, it's a tough thing to quit. I feel SO much better I sometimes have to pinch myself to be sure I really did it. I am to the point where I really don't think about it very often, and my cravings for a smoke are quite few and far between. Still get 'em now and then, but they're easily dismissed. The secret is pretty simple: distract myself for a few seconds, and then the craving goes away and I don't even remember having had it.

Anyhoo, thanks again. Quitting was a bit intimidating or overwhelming, at least to me. What I learned was that I smoked for YEARS to avoid about three weeks of discomfort.

Quit a 3pack a day, 37 year habit 17 months ago. Saved my life, could hardly breath any more. Now I ride 175 miles a week and save 600 dallars a month.

Congrats. I quit 5 years ago after smoking for 35 years. I've now successfully replaced one addiction (tobacco) with another (cycling). Best thing I've ever done for myself and my family. At 52 years of age, I'm in the best shape I've ever been. Keep it up, it gets easier every day.

I hope so. I had been thinking she'd fallen for me because of my (former) image that reminded her of Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca:

I quit 25 years ago after smoking for 20 years. Seems weird to say that. The first thing I noticed is the speckled phlegm. You cough up that crap and it has little black spots in it. I heard this from others, too.
Later, you dream that you had a smoke and you wake up feeling guilty and think you have to start all over again. I heard this from others, as well.
It was hard but not nearly as hard as quitting alcohol.
