I was doored recently, and am now in the process of figuring out the cost of the components of my bike. i rode a 2005 Cannondale R900 CAAD 8 and i need to know, at the requests of my lawyers, what each of the components would sell for in todays market if i was to just part the bike out. Here is what Im inquiring about:

Bottom Bracket TruVativ Giga X-Drive
Brakelevers Campagnolo Veloce Ergo
Brakeset Cannondale Omega brakes, Campagnolo Veloce Ergo levers

Crank TruVativ Rouleur, 39/53 teeth
Fork Crownaero


Rear Derailleur Campagnolo Veloce
Rims Gipiemme Grecal Parade
Saddle Fi'zi:k Poggio Eco

Shifters Campagnolo Veloce

I would try going to a bike shop and finding out what they would charge you to replace those parts.

Why do your lawyers want to know that? Just have the guy who wrecked your bike supply you with a new bike or pay for the repairs if it is not a total loss. Donīt let them make you search for parts to fix the bike they broke!

Yup. It's not like the victim is expected to provide an itemized list of replacement parts and costs if their car gets hit, for example. A bike is no different. If the OP's lawyers want to see if a settlement is fair, well, bike shops do that sort of thing as part of the services they offer.

depends on if an insurance company is paying for the damages. I just went through this and all I did was copy the speck sheet from the company I got the bike from. On my upgrades I pointed to the sites that sold the wheel, tires, bars and shifters. If it is a major insurance company they will more than likely replace you bike as if it were new. The one that setteled with me replaced all of my upgraded parts as well. As long as the other company is found at fault you should be returned to what they call a "whole" condition. At least as good as before the accident with something for pain and suffereing. It also depends on the state you live in. Campy stuff tends to be pricey.

take it to a good bike shop. That's what I did when my daughter was hit by someone that was following the Pennsylvania "right turn on red and why bother to look or stop" law. Worked out ok for all of us I think
