Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - Early 80s Schwinn Road Bike

This ad has caught my eye a couple of times. Previously they wanted $200 - now it's open to offers. I think this is uniquely suited to this forum - how much would you offer?

I should add that the seller is a family member of the owner and cannot provide any information. She also seems to be unable to read the labels on the components since I asked once in an email and she ignored it. I should probably just go ride it but then I would probably buy it.

That would around $150 in my area, large frames go for less. However I would probably try and pay closer to $100

Bring $200 in rolls of quarters and hand them to her one at a time until she can't hold anymore, or you can outrun her.

Seriously though, start at $100 and work up $10 at a time, bring the right small bills to make this happen.

I would pay much less since I would make sure the bike was in good condition and resell. In my high priced area I'd sell it for between $150 and $200 depending on model and if it had 700c wheels or 27". In your area, I suspect an end user would pay between $100 and $150.

Looks like an '85 World Sport, but I can't quite read the model on the top tube. And the 85 WS didn't have DT shifters.

Without being able to actually see the thing, I'd agree with $100 and work your way up from there. Clueless sellers are a PITA, just go look at the thing and then you'll know.

Typical sketchy seller. Sometimes this can make a good deal for you, as sellers like this treat all potential buyers poorly.

Ended up being a 1988 Cannondale SR1000, full Sante components at a very attractive price. And it was blue. The guy's ad was a classic, one word: Bycicle. Yep, he didn't even spell it right. No pics, no description, nothing. I drove 40 miles one way just for curiosity.

It is not a World Sport I have one. World Sports have the stem mounted shifters.

86 preludes were that color.

I wouldn't waste time on this. Seller obviously thinks they're sitting on a pot of gold. Basically, this is a very run-of-the-mill bike from a ho-hum period in Schwinn history. I owned this same bike back in day and it was truely unremakable. If you go forward, make sure the seatpost isn't frozen. pricewise, start at $50 and max out at $75. If you're under 6'2", this bike is probably too big for you.

I also think this is what this is after doing a little photo comparison. Not overly enthused. I like the height of it, though. I will probably sit back and see if it continues to get reposted. Dealing with the seller was very annoying but par for the course on Craigs. I asked what model was painted on the top tube and she said it was a "chicago style schwinn".... gee thanks.

IthaDan, that roll of quarters idea is now how I plan on handling all garage sale/craigslist transactions going forward. Funny stuff.
