...that would be compatible with a Redline spindle? My son's 175mm arms are just too long and I want to drop to 160mm or so. Everything on eBay uses a tapered square spindle - I'd prefer to get a compatible spline arm.

Any help?

Thanks

Ron

you might as well just buy your son a set of profiles. i dont know of hardly any cranks that are compatible w/ redline sized cranks? oh yeah, are the cranks the flight 2's or the prolines, or are they forged?

They are Monster (tubular).

What I may do is go to a used tapered square spindle - they seem to be more plentiful and a lot cheaper. Should be OK for a few years. Thoughts?

i think the monsters have a 20mm spindle, so you'll most likely have to get new bearings that fit the cups and new spindle. it would be alot easier to just get new cranks.

I think if you get hold of wethepeople then they might just have 160mm cranks. I saw it in ride once and they made some small cranks for a kid and a frame to match.

go to www.wethepeople.de and send them a email to find out. And just buy the cranks WITH the bearings and cups, it'l be alot less hassel

If you want to email me direct at lady13@cox.net I will see what kind of deals I have running for a short crank set. It will be below Dans comp pricing by a few bucks even after shipping anywhere in the US/ Canada.

Terrie, I did try to reach you at the above address but it bounced.

FWIW, my son is almost 7 yrs, 4'5", 70lbs and growing fast like they all do at that age. He has a nice aluminum framed bike that came with 175mm crankarms, even though it's got a shorter top tube for smaller riders.

I know the BMXers like longer arms for torque but he's stretching pretty far on those 175mm arms. I figure 165 may be a good size. If it's possible to find one that avoids my having to remove the BB that'd be best.

Are there any rules of thumb for BMX crankarm length regarding inseam, etc? This seems pretty well laid ut for road bikers but not BMXers.

I'd also be looking a lowering his sprocket from the current 42 tooth to 39 or 40.

Thanks for anything you can do,

Ron

yes there are diffrent crank arm sizes for inseam lengths recomeded and not always followed. go to www.danscomp.com than on the top there is a link to "sizing charts" than there is a catogory called crank sizing charts. ounce in there its just match up inseam lenghts. Good luck and let me know how it turns out when you figure out what you are doing.
