I received battery powered heated socks as a Christmas present from my sister. I have to admit that I have never looked forward to wearing a pair of socks before.

I wore them today. During the morning ride my feet were toasty warm. Conditions were nippy but not really terribly cold so more extensive riding will need to be done.

On the way home I rode though a flooded out section of trail. My legs up to my knees went under water. The water was cold and unforunately some water came in to my Lake MX 300 boots over the top and at the side where I hadn't done them up completely. I rode for another 25 minutes without any wierd sensations from the now wet socks. My feet were cooler but not as cold as I would have normally experienced.

I believe that my sister picked them up from Mark's Work Wearhouse in Canada.

Are you serious?

I ask because the socks are under a couple of layers of clothing so this could make me less happy in a hurry! :)

I've looked at these as a possible solution to my cold feet, haven't bought any yet. I was thinking the batteries might be a comfort problem while riding - are they in a little pouch at the top of each sock? Canadian Tire also sells them up here, I think they're around $30 a pair.
J, how cold was it? My feet don't get cold when there's water sitting around, my feet get cold around -10 C or so. What temp was your sock testing done at??

I believe the temperature was around -6 celsius but I need to doublecheck that. I agree that the temperatures weren't extremely good.

Be aware that the water I am referring to actually came from river flood waters. A lot of snow melted around here about a week ago and the river hasn't returned to normal levels yet.

I will post another report when temperatures return to seasonal cold....

I remember a day last winter when I arrived at my depot and the dispatch due to -40 temps were handing out chem packs that fit into socks and one fellow even had a pair of socks designed to accept them in lil pockets. the packs were thin and would fit into winter boots n such, and worked for 4-5 hours before you needed a new one.
I already had a sweet foot arangement so I didnt bother with them but I took my share anyway and put them in my hip pouch with my nextel/pager and phone which can act up at those temps + windchill. They kept my gear working and even better kept my pens from freezing.
The guys that wore them love them though.

Thanks for replying!

By any chance do you happen to know the brand name of the socks that were custom made for use with the chemical warmers?
