Appears to be in decent shape, no rust. Shifters have been replaced with barend twist shifters (never seen them before). Everything else appears to be original. Needs new bar tape; could use cables/housings and brake lever hoods.
Also has Shimano M520 pedals.

That is like the original GripShift! I used to have a pair floating around here but I must have sold the years ago.
I can't tell about the levers but calipers and the RD are an upgrade. I don't think DPs (and DA at that) appeared until '90 and the RD looks like a later model 105 SC
I would say $250 to maybe 300 tops but I would look really close at the wheels for crack. Those old Wolbers look like that have lots of miles on them This is very likely a freewheel 6 or 7 speed bike.

So... I guess I didn't do too awful with my first C&V ride at $90. Hope to post more pics when she's more presentable.
I don't like the shifters, but should I go with some barcons or back to the original-style DT shifters?

THAT would depend on what YOU like.

$90???? OH you did real good.
As to the shifters I agree it depends on what you like and also what you can afford. Is that 6 or 7 spd? I might be tricky to find an index 6 spd shifter set.

You almost stold that for 90.00, wow. Good snag. If I'm not mistaken the SR500 is a nice racing frame, the same used for the famed Black Lightning. The biggest difference is the color.
Ride that, thang.

Indexed is not required, but it's a 7-sp... The rear hub has been changed, as it's an RX100 freehub w/7-sp cassette. That may be why the shifters and RD were changed as well.

Nick, I've paid $100 for older Cannondales and was glad to get them. $90 for that bike screams Buy Me Now. Good for you.

Those shifters may have been OEM. might be worth looking in to. Cannondale definitely has other road bikes with OEM gripshift.

According to the 1988 catalog on vintagecannondale.com, it was originally equipped w/Shimano 105 DT shifters for 6-sp.

What part of a Cannondale would you expect to rust?

Anyone have any idea what those early gripshifts are worth if I were to pull them off and sell them?

Well, let's see, bolts, pedals, derailer parts, crank bolts, QRs and on some models of that vintage, the entire fork. Stainless steel spokes of that vintage have been known to break down and rust too.

I friend of mine just built a red one of these up with 7-speed 105. It rides great!

If you look at the bottom rear fork, you will see the initials of the original painter of the bike from the Cannondale factory, mine shows the letters RS or it could be a BS, hard to tell.
