How exciting was the finish at the top of Baldy today!

You guys out in CA are lucky to have a tour in your state! I was however, kind of freaked at the number of pro riders destroyed by the mountain. It's at least good to see that someone at that level can still struggle up a hill

Man what Horner did was just Epic!!! He blew everybody and blew himself up but personally i did not see such a thing since back in the 80s and 90s with hinault, lemond and the Teacher era. Just plain Epic!!!!

Congratulations to Horner even thought things did not come up as expected.

They are "stuggling" up a mountain at close to 20 miles an hour. Most of us go up gmr under 10 miles an hour. The steep part at the end isnt even a road, its the parking lot of a ski area

So glad Z didn't win..he's so boring to watch…I love him in all TT's cause he's american, but that race would have sucked if the whole thing would have been decided by the TT.

^ that's a little mean. If he had won, it still would have been decided on the mountain -- by him getting his dominantly time-trialing @ss heroically up over it. Oh well, he made it a good race with a strong showing.

I ride 20mph through parking lots all the time. Not a struggle. I should get out there and show them how it's done. :roflmao2:

I was cheering for the Columbian rider, but man, what an effort by Gesink to not only close down the gap inch by painful inch but to out kick him at the line. Horner definitely was the catalyst that stage. If he'd had a couple more capable climbers with him in the break, he might have made it stick. Too bad the other Columbian rider that got third didn't make the break. Does anyone have any video of how the break formed before the live TV coverage started? It looked like Jens Voigt was crushing it at the front for a long long time.

I was at the last kilo marker and they were not going 20 mph at that point, I was surprised at how many were struggling just to keep going there. Of course, they had climbed Baldy road as a warm-up before the other climbs.

A guy in flip flops ran over 100 yards, maybe even 200, with the Columbian kid who was leading at that point. Had to be less than 10 mph.

He did put in a nice little attack at the end of stage 4. Obviously not to effect GC much, but it always makes it more interesting when a non-sprinter throws in a monkey wrench while the lead out trains are trying to get things under control.

That's a different section.

GMR is a gentler climb, but long and tedious. Averaging 12-14mph up that road would be respectable.

we rode the course up GMR and then up to the finish. The last 5 miles is just crushing steep....and the pros did NOT make it look easy as the climbed at about 10 Mph
