Mountain Biking - Look down at the bottom of your right trouser leg...

Just writing the Halo SAS question, and I wondered how many people now can see a load of rips and oily stains at the bottom of their right trouser leg.
What I can't figure out is why the bottom of my left leg is also chewed up!

Because you wear trousers?

You don't have any socks to tuck your pantleg into 'cause it's winter and you're using them as gloves?

no oil stains, but a few rips. Once my jeans got caught in the sprockets and it brought me down to the ground with a not so soft landing. Since then i have this goofy looking piece of velcro

you wouldnt beleive how many pairs of trousers i go through because of that! it is a problem, i usually wear shorts though, ive only recently started tucking my trousers into my sock, seems to work pretty well... And yes, lots of grease all over the inside of my right hand trouser leg...

Whenever a pair of pants gets too stained/ripped for me (which takes a lot by my standards) I just hack off the bottoms of the legs, resulting in 3/4 length shorts.

I forgot to buy lube before christmas, so I used car motor oil.
Black spray everywhere.

The left leg may be from the pedal getting caught once in a while. Unless you ride backwards?

Bottom of your left leg? well sometimes when i wear jeans with a looser fit they flap into the spokes of the rear wheel if my foot happens to be there when i dont pedal. That may be something,

I go pirate style and roll up my leg if I'm wearing baggy pants if I'm wearing sweats or a straight leg pair of pants, I just use a strap.

seriously learn from the hipster messengers, roll them legs up!

I have these metal clip things that i hold my pant leg in place with as i always wear baggy pants. I met this guy that had "Devil Boy" i think it was branded clothing. His jeans had a built in snap inside the bottom of his pant leg that would keep your jeans out of the way. Anyone heard of these? I couldnt find anything online.

I got tired of ruining pants so I found some adidas runnding pants that work pretty good. They are tapered w/ a zipper at the bottom so you can unzip after you are done riding if you dont like the tapered look while not riding.

I usually like the Riders brand jeans(catchy name huh) they have the legs set up nice for keepin out of the way.
Ive had a few left leg chewups from the leg getting too near the tread of the tire. Downside of knobbies. Shorts rule anyway, except in winter. Booo cold. :rolleyes:

let me tell you, a rubber band will fix all your probs, put it on the trouser leg, put em' on and you will be fine:D

Do you have a stray cable from your front derailleur catching on your pants?

Is your left crank so rusted it abraids your pants on every rotation?

Definitely never had the cable problem. Perhaps that is due to predominatly riding in shorts.

Either someone with a BMX set up with Left hand drive has been using your trousers, or you need to find a better washing machine. Serious though, you don't have a dog do you?

If I am not wearing sweat pants under shorts, then I wear Military BDU's. I use that little sincher at the hem. I had one pair that got really faded, to where the only true black spots were from my chain and oil stains.

I either use a pair of black BDU's like SpiderMike or some Levi Silvertabs, those are pretty strait legged jeans. I like the bdus though because they have pocket space (not that I really need it for riding) and they have the hem sincher. They are also pretty tough so they last a lot longer than regular jeans.

I did the whole bdu thing a while back. While it makes me feel all tough, I thought the legs were way too baggy.

The ones I wear fit pretty close to me really. Some of the ones out there may fit differently but these ones fit pretty snug, especially when all the sinchers are tightened. The problem is when the sincher gets ripped/broken. Then it's just regular levis.

Whats nice in the winter now is I have a set of thermal lined running pants. Fleece type stuff inside and nylon outside. Not baggy but not tights. Hehe, goodwill, 3 bucks.
