Looking at purchasing a hybrid bicycle to ride locally on something called the Swamp Rabbit Trail here in Greenville, SC as well as other trails like in the region. I would imagine there a few things to know about these bikes before making a purchase so I'll probably read for a couple weeks before deciding. I'm not really familiar w/ on road bikes but the Scott Metrix 20 has caught my attention. Who knows where the search will take me but I do plan on buying something from a LBS. Also, I think I'm NOT interested in a bike that has any suspension. This bike will be for on road only...I've got a mountain bike for off road and suspension only adds weight and I'd prefer to stay on the lighter side.

Thanks mi. Looks like a really active board and I'm reading through to make sure I don't ask a question that's been asked 20 times already. Although people seem pretty friendly even to those who ask the proverbial "which bike should I choose" question.

Welcome to the forums! A bike that fits is the key, feel good about the bike shop, a heart of a teacher and not a salesman will make a huge difference!
