Bicycle Mechanics - please help me find a similar wrench

I'm needing one of these old "box end" wrenches for a bottom bracket cup. Is that the technical name for them? Searching for them by that name doesn't seem to work.
The one I linked is too expensive, and I don't require the pin side.

Could someone please recommend a cheaper alternative?
I'm hoping I won't have to result to a simple adjustable wrench. I need something I can use often enough, and I have poor luck with make-shifting with adjustable wrenches :)

I know it says "headset" wrench and it's open ended, but it's the same 36mm width as the HCW-4.

The only one I found for less was the Park HCW-3 (http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product_10053_10052_535497_-1___202576) for 8.99.

if youre in a pinch you could try an adjustable wrench in a jumbo size- i do that often when im feeling lazy in the shop.

+1 You need a better grade 12 in Wrench which adjusts to at least 36mm which is standard for these.

If the fixed cup is as tight as they often are, will that headset wrench be strong enough not to spring open under the required torque? There is a reason true fixed cup wrenches are closed boxes.

IMHO there is no such thing as cheap BB tool. good tools last and do not tear up your bike parts.

When you say you intend to use this tool often is that on the same bike? or several bikes? The cup on the right side, the one this tool is used for, is the called a 'fixed cup' and is called that for a reason. It is what the entire bearing system adjust againse hence it needs to be fixed ie inmovable. It is not intended to be removed for routine maintenance.

If you intend to remove alot of fixed cups buy a good tool and also a Stein fixed cup tool, to help hold it in place.

Looking at the photo of the tool, I see that it has a round opening with two flats, therefore a standard box end wrench desinged for a hexagonal fastener would not be suitable. Box end wrenches are significantly stronger than the same size open end wrench, so a very stout open end wrench would be needed to avoid its spreading under the considerable stress, compared to a closed type wrench. Your trouble with adjustable wrenches is noted and agreed with.

Weigh the cost of this tool against the cost of a replacement part, if available, if you damage it trying to use the wrong tool. If a customer's bike is involved the cost of damaged parts (time and good will) is escalated.
