There were drifts more than a foot deep in some places, and I did a lot of stretches where the bottom bracket was under snow the whole time. I had to get off 2 or 3 times to push. It took twice as long (at least) as normal and I was sweaty as hell when I got to work. But, damn, it was fun!

Do they plow your trail? I'm going to see if I can get some plowing going. Doesn't even have to be side-to-side. Just swipe it once to keep it clear. No salt or sand.

Kick ass, dude. How far is the ride? I wish I had a commute like that now and again. Today was good but apparently some recent grousing has had the intended effect and the paths I was planning to take for getting on my urban offroading had actually been cleared.

They are supposed to plow the trail, but I guess it doesn't always happen right away. I sent an email to our city's Pedestrian-Bicycle Coordinator, Arthur Ross, about it this morning. He said that they will try to get to it as soon as possible. Hopefully it'll be done for my trip home.

It's about 5.5 miles. I saw 2 other people biking on the way. People at work think I'm a little nuts.

It was about 7:30 or so. It's still pitch black at 6am. It's hard to tell time of day with snow pics, though, because the automatic exposure tends to make things less bright than the really seem.

Nice pics. Country? That ain't out in the country. :D I was kicking myself for not bringing along the camera this morning. It was beautiful. Full Sun, 20 miles, 1hr 55 minutes, 5 F and ice and snow on everything. I saw so many things that i don't normally see. My ride takes me out in the COUNTRY. Just me and the cows, squirrels and pheasants.


The pics would have been great since it is rare to see everything covered in ice. Trees, grass, you name it. I passed a rural pond that looked like it was covered in shimmering diamonds. Barbwire fences looked to be covered in crystal. Obviously words can't describe it. Must bring camera. :mad:

One interesting thing is that i have never ridden 20 miles on gravel roads when it was so plush. The snow and ice and 20lbs of air in the studded MTB tires made for the most comfortable ride ever.

Wow - great pics. We had about 10" of snow here in Iowa City. Funny thing - the bike paths here were plowed before many streets and were also much clearer. Lots of the slippery stuff on the road with the cars and buses.

I was in your neighborhood today, it was very slushy, when I was there.

ugh today was a crappy day for commute. School was dismissed early for me so i had to ride home on these unplowed roads for 4 miles :(. I dont like snow very much anymore

No, I commute the other way. I live on the isthmus, but work on the other side of Lake Monona.

Mississippi has not seen that much snow in the last five years combined.

The word is, that drive an hour any direction out of Minneapolis/St. Paul, and you'll be knee deep in snow. I mean Mississippi has more snow than we do. But it could be worse I could've been signed up for this year's Ididerod sled race and cancel, Alaska has the same problem we have, only they're still having balmy temps.
