My brooks flyer saddle has about 4,000 miles on it so far. But I started hearing creeks and noises coming from it after it "broke in" at 500 miles or so. It feels fine, but whenever I'm climbing a hill and shifting my weigh around on it, it seems to make sounds like metal under stress 'snapping' to release pressure. like a constant metallic snapping sound.

Does anyone know what this may be? it does have springs, so I'm thinking it has something to do with the spring tension.

It gets really annoying on long climbs.

My flyer has about 3500 miles on it. I just heard the first sound out of it yesterday. I was riding no-hands down a hill and hit a pretty good bump. So that was a good flexing of the springs and there was definitely a kind of metal-on-metal sound. Not sure precisely where it is from. Maybe from where the springs attach to the saddle's frame? But I am just guessing.

The bolts that hold the springs on is my 1st guess, also..

This is correct. you get a little corrosion on the metal parts and the movement squeaks a bit. Lube all the connection points, both front and back and it will (should) go away. Use oil or heat it up with a hair dryer and add some of your Brooks Proofhide. If you go to great lengths to remove this creak and it just won't go away, it's cause it's not your saddle, but something else. For me it was my bottom bracket bearing. I chased that wild goose around the block for 2 weeks.

I'm certain it's the saddle. It's plainly obvious the sound is from the brooks. I'll try slightly loosening the bolts that hold the springs and lube them before re-tightening them. I won't be able to do this for some time because I won't have my bike with me for some time (I'm a college student and I won't be home for another week). But when I'm at my bike again, I'm going to see if I can get rid of the noise.

I was certain is was my saddle too :)

I had a good creak on a relatively new one that was solved by a bit of oil, then inducing the creak. I heard the slip, and it's quiet now.

Pic helps here - the area is just behind the silver bolt assembly where you have upper/lower frame supports touching each other :

I had a vision of a large flow of Brooks saddles going down a creek.

You could just dip a line in and fish out a Brooks..... ;)

99% of the time the noise is in the nose of the saddle. this can be fixed by squirting a little silicone spray on all the metal parts up front.

suggest loosening the saddle tension nut about 1/2 turn, spraying the nut, tension screw and all of the metal frame with boeshield T9 or shoe/boot type of silicone. then retightening the tension nut about 3/4 turn.

I drizzled heated proofide into the nose of my B-67 to rectify a squeak in mine.
