Advocacy & Safety - They are watching us...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Interesting. Moments after posting my insurance questions, two car insurance ads appeared on BF for Allstate and Belair Direct. Moments later for rental cars.

Whoops, the insurance ads aren't appearing yet for this thread. Insurance rates. Best insurance company. Car insurance. Safe driver insurance.
Did that help?

Sigh. Google knows me all too well. My ads are Adobe, BMW and Android.

Yep, it's called "spyware", and it been around for quite some time. A regular cleaning with some sort spyware remover/blocker should reduce the number of unwanted ads.
I know... just had never seen it so instantly and dramatically before.

You can say it but please don't post pictures of it (as per the agreement when signing up) or anything that can be considered soft porn, such as half nekkid men with their pants zipped down or of women focusing on cleavage and butt shots. There is just no reason for it. There are kids on this forum, and posting pics of such is cause for immediate permanent ban.
No more tolerating of that here.

It is not really "spyware". It is behavioral targeted ads. This is most likely happening because the site that you were at first uses the same ad network as BikeForums. They uses cookies to know what site you were looking at before and then when they see you again give you ads targeted at similar things.

I could care less about car ads or car insurance rates. I am not slamming the OP. I am just saying, I don't care who is watching. I am not going to cower in a corner and become a cyclist-turned-hermit.

OP posted two threads asking BF some insurance questions. BFs advertisement software saw the word insurance and picked the associated advertisements for placement in those threads.

What's an ad?
But in the OPs case, there are probably others watching the OP very closely as well.

No, it's not. It's targeted ads. It does not involve or require anything to be installed on your machine. Typically this is done via cookies on your browser to one of the ad services.
It's actually trying to produce WANTED ads. Ones that might actually be something you're interested in, rather than just random ads.
If you don't like it, you can run Ghostery on your browser so they can't track you. You'll still get ads, they'll just be random.

No more tolerating of that here. Yet, there are t-shirt ads that show women in their underwear, or with their pants unzipped, or focusing on their boobs.
Not that I'm complaining, just pointing out the double standard.

Yeah well, YOUR boobs and cleavage, and that shot of you next to that black bike trying to be all sexy and stuff ... or even the one with your legs spread eagle should have gotten you banned a long time ago.

Kids can always go over to YouPorn anyway. Seems funny to me that any forum would ban the stuff this place does. It's like a ship of Pilgrims here.
Image, a picture of a woman's cleavage is something awful. Geesh!

What a loss that would be! Seriously, we'd have to start the All Chip All The Time channel somewhere!

Who cares? Are you sending a monthly contribution to Bike Forums to keep them running? I didn't think so, so Bike Forums needs the sponsor money to keep running. I find nothing wrong with that.
