Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Casual riding pants with a gusseted crotch?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Don't get me wrong, I get all lycra'ed up when going on long rides, but a lot of my riding is also running errands around town, going places by bike, etc. I've found I will absolutely destroy the crotch of a normal pair of jeans within three weeks of riding my bike with them. I ride with a Brooks B17 saddle. I'm looking for something sized about 40x30, preferably jean-like or very casual pants (no pleats!).

Does anyone have suggestions? I notice a lot of the high-end bike-specific jean companies make nothing but "skinny fit" jeans that max out around a size 38" waist. Well I guess they're not going to get my money! :notamused:

You can try Diamond Gusset Jeans (http://simplecycle-marc.blogspot.com/2012/03/cycling-jeans.html) or Rivendell Musa Pants (http://simplecycle-marc.blogspot.com/2011/02/rtvendell-musa-pants.html), I've tried and like both. The Rivendell pants are pretty roomy and the fabric is really light and comfortable. There is also a company called Beta Brand which advertises here, but I haven't tried their stuff yet.

Can't comment on the pants, but would a pair of MTB cargo shorts work? I have a pair, they look nice, and would look better ironed, they come with the chamois pad.

I use two types of pants to ride on my hybrid. I can go 20 miles without needing any kind of bike shorts or chamois if I wear stretchy pants. I have a cheap pair of skinny jeans that I wear a lot. The lycra or spandex content is high. They have lasted me months and I ride in them a lot. I find that they work much better than baggy pants, even better than gusseted pants I have like Grammacis. I think that having them be a bit form fitting cuts down on the wear. I also have a pair of shorts and a couple pair of knickers I ride in that are made of a stretchy fabric. The shorts are made by Pearl Izumi and the knickers by Zoic and they came with detachable liners. Often I don't bother with the liner. There are a lot of mens shorts and knickers that are similar. These are nice: http://www.rei.com/product/822702/zoic-black-market-convertible-bike-pants-mens

These two options look quite promising, thank you!

And thanks for the other replies, too.

I've been riding in a pair of Mountain Hardware 3/4 length Ridgetop pants for a little more than a year. I love them! I just got a second pair, and I wish I could find a third in the third color they make. They seem to be discontinued, but REI has them at a discount on their site.
