I'd park my buggy here at our local big chain store:

But I'm not.

What do you think you'd enjoy more, being Amish, if anything.

Do they sell big rope as well as big chains?

That looks like the Walmart horse barn in Goshen Indiana. They built it for the Napanee Amish to park their horse and buggies there with some shelter for the horses.

Since you're not Amish, do you have to park your buggy somewhere else? (It doesn't same Amish only, does it?)

I have a strange urge to post a naked picture of myself in this thread. I have no idea why.

IIRC, way back when I lived there, the "Farm & Fleet" store SE of town also had horse & buggy parking.

I think chris... needs to photochop the Amish MP into existence.

But I think she secretly sneaks into her nearest Amish phone booth with a laptop to read BF.

You remember correctly. Both even have feed stations available and both stores provide snacks for the horses. Usually from damaged Quaker Oatmeal stocks if a container is ripped in shipment. Sometimes apples that are too soft to sell, or badly bruised.

I was in the supermarket on a hot summer day. A van full of Amish women came in. I could not be in the same aisle with them. And the smell lingered. It was bad. Very bad. And I'm used to being in the boy's locker room at school.

When I worked in factories summers between years of college to pay for my tuition, I was always impressed by the amish guys. No matter that they were wearing long sleeve shirts (we all had to wear long pants) and had full beards, they just seemed cooler and fresher at the end of a 13 hour shift than the rest of us. And this was even the old guys. Was probably an attitude thing as much as anything else. Not an issue now as the draft is pretty much done away with anyway, but the exemption from being drafted that my mennonite classmate had growing up would have been a good thing had the draft been reinstated.

Could you still live in your van down by the river if you were Amish?

I read this book (http://www.amazon.com/Better-Off-Flipping-Switch-Technology/dp/0060570040) about a couple that lived amongst a group that was described as being like the Amish, and found it interesting. But not enough to join them.

My mom's a school teacher and she has some amish students (now only 3-4 a year, it used to be almost half her class before they opened their own school). I miss those Christmases when her kids would give her things like fresh baked bread from their wood fired ovens. That stuff was awesome.

I don't think your cats would care for the team of horses in the garage.

If I ate all that pie, I wouldn't fit into the costume anyway.

I think I'd enjoy living as the Amish do. I know the simplicity appeals to me, and I'd like the barn-building.
