A year and half ago I chronicled my issues with reactive arthritis and how it was triggered from food poisoning. I was okay about 10 days after eating the bad food, even well enough to do a long bike ride. But during that bike ride I began feeling very ill and then had the onset of the temporary crippling joint issues to the point I wound up in the hospital about a week. That lead to being off the bike for 3+, months.

All that is spelled out here:

Well, three if us had lunch together Tuesday and all of us became very ill Wednesday night----all at about the same time. My food poisoning symptoms Wednesday were very similar to what I experienced in late 2010. I will be flying to Colorado next Saturday for week long bike ride. Assuming a similar time frame as last time, if this reactive arthritis rears up again this could get really ugly........By just sheer coincidence I do have an appointment with my Rheumatologist Monday. However I doubt there is much he can do at this point that would be preventative. I recall his words over a year ago that "he was afraid this could repeat itself and be more frequent than before".

Wouldn't that be a downer to lose the 20 pounds I put on, so some extra training and miss out on the one event I was looking forward to the whole year due to some bad lettuce.....

Hopefully I'm just worrying over nothing and it's at least another 30 years until the next episode......

By the way, what in the heck has happened to food quality lately??????

jppe,
This is not good news at all. I'll be praying for you and that the food poisoning will just pass, as bad as it is by itself, and that the reactive arthritis isn't recurring. Please keep us posted on how you are doing and what the doc says Monday.

I was out riding this morning. I ran into George and he said you posted that you might miss the trip. I am praying for you to be able to make it. I know how much the ride means to me, and believe it means as much or more to you (especially since you are a RTR Veteran). I will try to call you today. I hope you are feeling any arthritis symptoms. Has the food poisoning gone away? I surely hope to see you in Gunnison.

My doctor gave me a prescription for enough meds to hopefully get me through should I start to have an episode-he is a good guy that does whatever he can to keep me on the bike.

On the other hand my back is now killing me.......feels like a bad muscle strain and is not skeletal or RA related. All I did was stand up out of my chair this morning before going to the doctor. Probably another muscle imbalance episode as I've picked up the miles the last couple months and haven't done much else. I sure hope sleeping on the ground for a week will do it a lot of good......right!

Maybe I should now take the meds for that???

I used to never have health issues.

I've lost so much weight the past couple weeks I'm now going to concentrate on trying to put on some weight this week to help out my stamina.
