Hello,

New here, just dropped a post in the intro thread and now down to business - ha! This is a noob question but I thought I'd post it here for those more familiar with cross bikes.

So I've recently purchased a 2012 Kona Jake for commuting and light off roading - or so i thought! This bike's been so much fun I can't keep it off the trails. Anyhow, I was given an Amazon gift card and thought I pick up a set of more commuter friendly tires. So these arrived in the mail today:

Apparently buying tires isn't as straight forward as I thought because these things are too large (?). The tires that came with the Jake are 700 x 33c and the Marathon's are 700x32s.

I had a feeling I should have bought something more universal online and got the tires at the LBS. So where'd I go wrong?

The only thing I can think of is that they may have sent you the wrong tire size?

Tire sizes are often Not Correct as to what is listed on the side wall.

Send them back.

I bought a 700 X 35 tire for my touring bike.
It was very very tall. When I measured it it was a 40. Said 35 on the sidewall.

Sidewalls says "32-622 (28 x 1 5/8 x 1 1/4 -700 x 32c) HS 348. Labels says 28x 1 1/4 700 x 32c. Both tires, separate boxes from the shipper. Wonder if the lot at Amazon is all incorrect if I do in fact have to. would suck to send them back and get two more of the same.

35 is the tire width, not sidewall height.

Too large how? The rub on the frame?

I can't get both beads into the rim so that i can inflate the tire. the rim floats inside the tire.

are your tubes big enough?... n/m, i see that you havn't even gotten the beads on... you post pics?

Some tires are harder to get over the rim than others. You might have to use some elbow grease.

Marathon Plus are just really hard tires to mount. The 28 inch label is just something Schwalbe does. Apparently in Germany 700c is referred to as 28 inch.

Look online for tips on how to mount Marathon Plus tires. I think there's even a video somewhere dedicated to that topic. Even with the tips it will be difficult.

The continental GP4000s I use are really hard to mount. It makes the job much easier.
