Hi everyone
The background is about 25 yrs ago i broke my left femur and the muscle never recovered. There was also nerve damage if that has any effect. There are 4 inches less muscle on left thigh and calf than on my right.I have over the years tried to build it back up with out any success. It has never really been a problem until now with the kids growing up and less working hours i have started cycling a lot more and the right knee is suffering because it is doing more of the work.
A bit of sharp gravel in my right shoe may help to even out the effort or does anyone have another solution.I couldn't cycle at all this past week.
Thanks

See a sports doc, maybe there is some kind of rehab they can have you do.

One-legged pedaling on a trainer is good. Most gyms will have machine that allow you to work one leg at a time. That works. It's possible that your leg action isn't quite right and that's causing your knee problems, not the extra work that leg is doing. There are many one-legged cyclists. I'd say stretch both legs, and work them both. It'll take a few years, but they'll balance out again. Oh - check your leg length on both sides. Sit on the saddle holding the wall or with the bike on a trainer, put each heel on a pedal and rotate to the bottom position. Same on both sides or is one leg shorter than the other?

Maybe more stretches for that over worked right quad. IT band stretches and quad stretches. Anytime the muscle is over worked, gets too tight, puts excess pressure on the patella and voila -knee pain. Also keep hammering on the stength training for that left leg> split squats would be good, Although i do like the sharp gravel idea....
