Fifty Plus (50+) - Chronicling the 50+ Annual Bike Rides

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

We stayed at the Caravan Inn in Glenwood Springs, CO

Comments. Our first ride. There were some disagreements regarding a "ride" as we were not associated with any other ride. A great variance in expectations, time to start rides, etc. But, overall, a success.

Represented:
LA area, Florida, North Carolina, Ohio, Illinois, Nebraska and Denver

OK, we need the same information for 2nd, 3rd and 4th 50+ annual rides.

Please add ride 3 in the same format

Denver,
We couldn't make this ride due to a hospitalization but I remember working with y'all on the legal and LAB issues. That was a learning experience for me. Hope to make the next one and I am willing to help in any way.

Was it that long ago, Denver? I haven't been on the forum much, so didn't know of the other rides.
It would be interesting the know about them all the same

Location:

Jim from Boston (get well, Jim!)
Miss Kenton
Miss Kenton's hubby, Tom
Ken Brown
Wayne (Ken Brown's buddy)
and I think, Groth
I apologize if I've left anyone out.

Some of us camped at the home base of the ride.
Some of the less brave/earthy of us stayed in motels.
I believe the rides ranged from 40-80 miles.
The scenery was beautiful and the weather was gorgeous.
We joined a bigger ride; The Southern Tier Bicycle Club's 30th Annual GFLBT.
They had secured the use of a large club house on the campground where we all met up for meals and socializing.
It was very well organized.
I had a fantastic time and would be happy to participate in that ride again.

??????

Why the ????????????

It seems to me that each year as we plan or don't plan for the annual ride, it would be helpful to know where, who, when and what was done in previous years. That way we can, if desired, spread them out geographically, and build on experience to have a better ride - we learned a WHOLE LOT from the first ride, which shaped considerably the 2nd ride into a more successful activity..

Right now, no one seems to remember any of the above in regards to the 3rd annual ride - already forgotten, apparently.

So, please help me with why you did ????????????

Thanks

Denver,
I went back to Marc's reply to my questions and he indicated that a 50+ ride was in the Ann Arbor area. Is this the missing ride #3 you are needing? I asked him to post up any details he could help us with and who organized this. Hope this helps out in assembling the template for organizing future rides.

Yes, Ann Arbor sounds familiar.

Can anyone else chip in?

We now have a "sticky" with a chronicle of each ride in one place for future reference

As the organizer of Number 3, I added my account to the sticky. Feel free to add if I missed anything, but that's my best recollection.

Now Number 3 is no longer "lost."

Many thanks also Denver Fox from me because I've been an attendee at two
Annual Rides. Miss Kenton's and Road Fan's descriptions were quite accurate, as one who*was there.*Before I begin, many know of my crash this June and I recently posted about current circumstances at:*

...

I just wanted to mention that in late May, just before my accident, the organizing group Mass Bike finally released the date for their Annual Century and Family Ride on July 28.*west of Boston, starting in historic Lexington, MA. I was earnestly *going to propose that venue as an additional 50+ ride. My one trepidation is that accommodations are more expensive in Boston with less camping available than other previous sites. I was actively seeking out reasonable accommodations, including some possible free spaces for that weekend. I'm hopeful to be able to ride again by next summer, and I hope the Fifty Plus Forum would consider it for 2013. [http://massbike.kintera.org/faf/home/default.asp?ievent=1028971]

I am also working on a post to the sticky to add links to the posts on the Second, Third, and Fourth Annual Ride threads that begin with the personal narratives and photos for those three rides.

It was held in conjunction with the One Helluva Ride, which starts and ends in Chelsea MI. For the 'warm-up ride' on the day before the 'main event,' the group rode from Bandemer Park in Ann Arbor, to Chelsea and back.
