A curious thing has happened in regard to my cycling. During our 34 day cruise in Feb-March of this year I rigidly kept to a minimum of 30 minutes a day on the cycle machines in the gym.
Now, at home, although I have put in some good 26 mile rides, I seem to be slacking off on the rainy days, of which we have been having an over-abundance this Spring. Facing the trainer in the basement has not been a pleasant thought so I keep hoping for good weather so I can make up the miles I missed during the rainy days.
Of course, I am getting in a lot of good reading so it's not all bad.
Does bailing out the basement count for aerobic activity?

There are a few rainy days when I ride on the trainer in the garage. no shame. bailing i don't do.
Speaking of exercise machines on cruise ships, I really liked the hand cycle machine on Diamond Princess. Our local YMCA just got one, as well, although not as nice.

It has to count for something if the house is sinking.

On the cruise, you HAD to exercise to burn off the calories from eating all that food.

Put the trainer on the porch and get a better view.

The first winter I had the trainer on the porch and I used to go out there and work up a sweat even on very cold days. The fresh air was invigorating. Unfortunately the porch is small and we are now keeping the porch furniture out there year round. Anyway, today the sun is finally shining so I plan to head out for a ride outdoors.

Is there a better "porch furniture" than a trainer? :)
