Commuting - Stupid old film(s).

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Anybody have links to similar films?
They actually blame the bike riders for the accidents and take it for granted that if you drive a car you always do obey the rules and bike riders should not make problems for drivers!

Those kids grew into todays drivers....kinda explains many misperceptions about "modern" safe cycling practices.

Note Red Alert (the Transformer in the PSA) swerves TOWARDS the kids and then blames them for almost being hit.

I was prepared to be outraged, but after watching the clip I don't think it was that bad. It promoted vehicular cycling and compliance with driving laws. This is what the vast majority of us seem to support.
There were a couple of times when it said something like (I'm paraphrasing here) "you need to stop at stop signs like cars do." If it had said instead "as cars are required to" I would have been ok with it. In another place it tells the viewer that bikes are supposed to stay as far right as possible. It would have been nice if it had explained when it isn't safe to ride as far right as possible, but we're never going to see a nuanced discussion of that in a film aimed at 9 year-olds.
One more thing. I have seen a lot of people on the forums say that cars of DUI drivers and those without insurance should be impounded. I don't disagree. The message the film sends is along these lines. When you screw something up, perhaps you should lose the privilege of using it for a while.
