Been playing with Wordpress.com recently (not the self-hosted Wordpress) and finding the admin backend to be very slow most of the time, taking about 20 seconds to complete.

Anyone notice this?

Thanks!

Might be your server. I self host a WB blog and have no issues with loading times.

I use wordpress for my blog and sometimes it takes a few seconds to upload a posting but I've never had any problems. For free it's worth several times the price.

The posting system of any type of cms, including forums will sometimes be slow. I guess it's a minor inconvenience if you want to use a blog. Does it still do that or have you got the problem solved now?

I don't like using blogs. A static page loads much quicker, and then there are all the security risks. It takes a bit longer to put up new content but not much. I have blank templates for the pages of each site. If it's a short page like about 500 words, I could have it up in 10 or 15 min max.

All of our articles are scheduled to publish in the morning, so I never see a delay. While we'd like to get away from Wordpress eventually, it's hard to beat for simplicity and flexibility.

I'm a WP newbie. It seemed simpler than trying to do the coding needed to get comments and responses.

That's true, it is a nice comment system.

An alternative with a static site is Facebook comments. This just takes a small patch of code that you paste in where you want the comments. Since the user has to be logged into FB, you don't get spam, but this will limit people who don't have a FB account.

There is quite a lot to learn with Wordpress too. The basic installation with Fantastico or one of the script installers just takes a few minutes, but it is very insecure. Installations should be done manually. This gives a person the chance to change the 'admin' user name, the database table prefix (wp by default, and every hacker knows this) and a few other major details.

Plus if something doesn't look the way you want, it can be a major pain and a lot of fiddling to get it to come out right.

Also, in the forum I usually hang out in, there is at least one 'help, my blog was hacked' post a week.

I use a self hosted wp now, but I've used Wordpress.com a lot in the past and never had any delays that long. Try a new connection or backing up and starting fresh.
