Fifty Plus (50+) - First Long Single Bike Ride of the Year this Saturday!

Well, long is a relative term. I'm heading up to Santa Rosa, CA for a 100K/5500' metric this Saturday. Haven't done a ride that long on my single this year and haven't really ridden the single that much. This is a "Solidarity Ride" to commemorate Volagi's court sort-of-victory over "evil" Specialized. I may be the only one doing a meager 100K, but the Century has 8000' of climbing, more than I want to hazard until I figure out this single bike climbing thing. Even at only 100K, however, pie or facsimile thereof will be in the offing.

The weather looks good and the countryside is pleasant. Hope everyone has an enjoyable ride planned for this weekend.:)

Well, that's a nice area to ride in.....I guess you're used to a tandem so a good light road bike ought to fly ! 63 miles is not that bad, you'll make it to the pie!

I think you must be mad- That extra engine on the back with the turbo boost:lol: is going to be missed. Then there is the motivation you get from the slap on the butt when you start slacking- and who is going to feed you the Pie as you are riding?

Big mistake so treat this as a one off- you may get to like it.

And that feeding you Pie- Don't forget to follow the usual rules of eating and drinking and a rest break now and then. No one on this ride to tell you when to do it. You will have to do things on your own and after "X" years of marriage- it come as a bit strange.:eek:

I drove the Sag Wagon for our first metric on the calendar for this year .
I love doing it, but miss the riding.
Hot, dry weather took a toll on folks ,as did the wind

I'm always amazed at the folks who do serious distance riding. I've done Century's but not in 25 yrs. I have no doubt I could do a Metric Century but I have that Time Trial mentality and want my "stress rides" to be short. Congrats. Today my gf are off on a club "recovery ride" of about 40 miles after yesterdays club fundraiser rides. We did the 38 mi. ride whereas most people did the Century.

I posted a short story of the ride in the "Did you Ride Today?" thread. It was a very nice ride with the big kids going the 100 mile and a good group doing the 100K including yours truly. While the climbs were not epic there were several steep ups, one as steep at 16%, but I was able to grind away to thanks to all the arduous tandem riding. And we did catch a glimpse of the ocean while the big kids were able to ride along the ocean for a fair bit.
