The nutritional info on each of our energy snacks (Gu gels, Shot Blocks, etc.) has a different sodium/potassium ratio. In addition, some have more sodium than potassium, while some have less sodium.

For the average person (not a racer) on long rides (40+ miles), who doesn't sweat profusely, is there an ideal ratio?

I read an article last week online (can't find it now...) which said contrary to popular thought, energy products should provide more potassium than sodium.

Nuun and Hammer's products are in the range of 3.6-4:1 sodium : potassium.

I've used a mix of salt/light salt to get the same ratio for hot double centuries (and that was the only source of electrolytes beyond what is in maltodextrin) with good results. I mix the electrolytes with 1-2hr worth of calories and then supplement that with the appropriate amount of water.
