Hey all...
Hopefully the login name doesn't offend anyone, as I'm certain there are more than a few cycling enthusiasts that look down on "the guy that rides by with aero-bars". Actually, I've always loved biking, but I've only realy had the time and money to get back in to the sport/life the last 5-6 years. This looks like an awesome knowledge and interest group, so why not... ...give it a spin!
I'm recently moved back to the US (Seattle) after 3 years of living in Europe. After three years of pubs/bars and limited biking, I figured I should get back in to the sport. So, what better way than to jump in via Ironman. Did my first IM last year (2004) and racked up a lot of miles/km's making rides all over the beautiful pacific northwest. Some of my favorites include various loops in the Mt. Rainier or Olympic National Park, where it seems you can ride endless hills and have water breaks at beautiful vistas. Cayuse Pass and Crystal Mtn. Blvd. are both nice climbing rides. Alternatively, in Seattle I love round-the-lake (Lk. Washington) rides with buddies in the summer/fall/spring months.
I used to be a mountain bike junky, before the gear resembled motocross gear (no offense, I'm just poor and jealous). Ridden steel, aluminum, and carbon mountain bikes: Cinelli (made by Fisher, with XTR), Cannondale M1000 (XTR, circa 1995), and a Cadex 1 (made by Giant with Suntour XC Pro). Moved on to Bianchi's and most recently purchased a Kestrel Talon for the tri-racing I got in to last year. Kestrel makes a great carbon bike for the tri-scene and the price/performance ratio can't be beat.
More biking and trying to join up with a racing team this year to build strength, speed, and endurance. Looking forward to dialog with the rest of you.
