As rare as that is. This is one time where there is a clear winner :)

If you do a search through the past threads this is about the ONLY thing that is a clear winner on this entire forum. Save for the fact that we all like bikes.

avid is what unites this forum, some people like triple cranks, some like double. Some swear steel, some swear CF. Hard Tail vs suspension, but they are all equipped with avid :D

yes, it does say something...im gonna go with just the avid mechanicals, im going to try and get teh 8" rotors...should make a good combination...the regular avids mechancals wiht 8" is about 80-90 bux for one wiht the disc...a good deal
Why does everyone here love mechanical discs so much??? do it properly and get some Hope hydros.
Maelstrom

They don't really, he was asking about mechs. I always recommend hydros if the user asks about the option. I prefer them by far.
Which ones do you have on your bike? Have you tried the Avid Juicy 7 Extremes yet? they look ok but ive yet to ride a set.
Maelstrom

I haven't ridden a set. Equipment is tough to come by in whistler and the price is nuts. So I tend to stick to basics. I have tried hopes and liked them but not the price, I am a hayes user. Good power, good modulation and DANG cheap
I am trying to get a set from a dealer I know in bellingham, the multi pivot might help my left hand get some more power.

also, the brakes that i have on my bioke are qmd "quad." yeah, they really suck for disc brakes, and I believe the pads for them are very diffulcult to find in many options also, avid is the solution:)

funny story about hayes mechs. one of my buddies just bought a front one because he wanted to start doing sum trials stuff. when he first got it it was rubbing a bit. so he showed his dad and while he was pointing(the wheel was spinning) he looked away and then he got his finger caught in it. 6 stiches later he was back out bikin again. but ya after he got them to stop rubbing hes never had a problem with them. but i would still say buy an avid

Hmm let's see.
Easier to fix in the boonies
Cheaper to buy
Cheaper to fix
You can get levers, cables, housing at any Mom and Pop shop. Even if they only sell Comfort bikes and Beach cruisers. Try that with hydros
No toxic fluid to spill or leak
Never have to bleed them (though that's not that big a deal)
Has adequate power for 98% of the riders on this Forum
Not bad for a short list. On a side note Hayes Hydraulics smoke Hopes, thought you should know.

so what about the avid quad qmd 5?? will they withstand dirt jumping/urban/light shore riding? i dont wanna spend $170 for bb7's because its for my secondary bike
Avid all the way! (For both mechs and hydros)
Specializedride
03-17-06, 05:14 PM
cant spend 170 on bb7's, buy the 6" bb5's. avids brakes are by far the easiest of any brake to adjust that i have seen

BS hopes have so much more power and they actually have modulation unlike hayes. so what if theyre expensive, you pay for what you get. now im not saying the hayes are a bad brake at all, im just saying hopes are better.
Someone disagreed with raiyn. Whereever he is, whatever he is doing, i bet he sensed that and i await his impending return. :)
