Hi,

I am going on a v.loooong cycle in june from london to sydney.

does anyone have any route advice through Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, N.India, Tibet and Austraila.

my website is www.cyclingtosydney.com (http://www.cyclingtosydney.com)

to see maps of my very rough routes (just which countries really) but i am trying to compile routes through countries as well.

Also i havent done any long distance before so any tips on safety, bike, equiptment etc would be great.

Thanks a lot!
kira

p.s if anyone would like to sponsor me you can from my website. you can pledge now and pay on my return in 2006. Ģ5 would be great. details about my charities are also in the website and 100% of your donation goes to the charities. (Red Cross and Friends of the Earth) thanks x

For Australia, there's pretty much only one route from Perth to Adelaide, be prepared for long distances between services in this section. Don't always assume those dots on that map represent towns, as there aren't too many out there. From Melbourne to Sydney, you might consider looking at the route in Lonely Planet's Cycling Australia. Their Melbourne-Gold Coast ride passes through Sydney. The Great Ocean Road is probably the best choice through Western Victoria.

i donīt get it, no offence, but if 100% of the money goes to the charities then what do you get?

Schumius, you are really cynical!
I saw your profile and you are building a touring bike so you must know why people tour? do you tour for money???
the trip is going to be an amazing once in a lifetime adventure for me -that is what i get!!

no, by "what do you get" i was referring to "sponsoring you", if the money all goes to the charities then weīre not sponsoring you in the end beacuse the money canīt reach you.

we all tour for the feeling and the possible revelation that along it brings to make us better. iīm sure it would be amazing, i was thinking about doing a eurasia tour myself, in the opposite direction though.

oh right... sorry! (-;
I doubt any individuals would want to sponsor me finacially? I will approach businesses for personal sponsorship in the form of cycling clothes etc. but largely i think the trip will be self financed. i will be on a strict budget!

if you do come in the opposite direction we could meet at some point and swap adventure stories!

no prob.

that would be cool if we would bump into each other, but thatīs quite unlikely beacuse i spent most of my savings on the lht and now i can only do short trips or cheaper countries. am thinking about doing tibet this july-sep but guess youīre still in europe then. nevertheless if you change your route and think about a detour to taiwan, just let me know.

btw, i do am cynical, but not in this thread.
