The OEM Rhock Shox Judy on my Trek 6700 is toast. From reading the sticky and a few older threads I'd like a coil spring fork. What should I get?

Here are the details:

Weight: 190lbs

Bike: Trek 6700 hardtail

Trails: I'm in Florida....cross country...no drops, occasional stairs, a millioin and one tree roots and rocks per ride

Price Range: Under $500 out the door. I'm going to buy a take-off or left over model from a local dealer

So, what do you suggest?

Think i'd have the say the Marzocchi MX Comp ETA, very nice forks, and for £209 you cant fault them... Very good for XC, can handle small drops if need be, and will take stairs, they are available in 85 or 105mm...

Weigh in at 1.8kg without the steerer tube so thats pretty respectable for a fork in this price range, if i was spending that money on a fork, i would get the MX, will be a VAST improvement over your Judy :)

Fox Float, I believe that is Fox's coil sprung fork. Everyone I've read says mucho plush. I haven't ever ridden one, I ride air sprung stuff right now.

fox float or F100X. if you have the money, fox should always be your first pick.

I will never recommend an Axel of any sort. Do a search and read the reviews...

I won't reccomend a Fox, don't like them. You could get a Manitou Black, Marzocchi MX Comp, Rock Shox Duke.

Fox vanilla is the coil fork. Manitou black elite's i heard are nice coil shocks.

Giant piece of ***************** is what that is. The Axel is the single most flexy fork I've ridden this side of an RST or a SR Suntour.

I thought the Vanilla was the coil sprung fork from Fox, not the float. At any rate, I'd say the Rock Shox Reba SL can be had for under $500 and appears to be a nice fork.
