Foo - What is the coolest thing you ever saw while riding your bike?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

You know, something that made you say out loud, "That's cool".
I haven't been riding long but just a few weeks ago I decided to take this gravel access road and about a mile down the road I saw these things in the air flying around. As I got closer I noticed they were model airplanes, but they were electric and you couldn't hear them. I stopped and started asking questions and one guy let me fly his plane. Pretty cool. :thumb:
I'm sure there will be plenty more as I continue to explore the world on my bike.

Comfest. I ride there every year.
I was riding out of a small town in the early morning. Mist was rising, and as I coasted around a corner, I startled a herd of deer
and I got to watch them run through the mist. It was like something out of a movie.
During a pit stop on a tour five years ago, I visited the International Crane Foundation (http://www.savingcranes.org/). There's a separate area for a pair of whooping cranes. The vets had to do a short check-up on their [adopted] baby. It took three vets, two armed with brooms to keep the agitated parents at bay. The check-up only took 5 minutes. While their baby was gone, they were looking around for it and doing their whooping calling for their missing kid...beak pointed straight up. When the youngster was returned to them the parents checked it over. While not technically witnessed while riding, I wouldn't have experienced this fantastic emotional experience if not on that tour. If you're ever biking in south-central WI (Baraboo, WI), I encourage you to visit the ICF. It's a great stop for bikers.

Guy on skateboard coming down Flagstaff Mt.
Also guy on unicycle, climbing Mt Evans.
Last week I was riding a quiet country lane and I came up next to a doe and a fawn standing next to the road. The fawn was tiny. It must have thought I was another deer and it immediately "charged" me and ran right along side for about 50 feet. I stopped. It was almost touching me. That's when it got a whiff of me and figured out I wasn't a deer. It was off like a shot. If I only could have filmed it.

A great blue heron taking the lane as he/she flew along a street near my house. He/she was flying along, going with the curves of the road at a height of about 5-6 feet and on the correct side.

I encountered a couple of fellows out at Two Rivers park flying electric RC airplanes. It was nice. I stopped and talked with them. They said they preferred the gas powered ones because of the power to weight ratios made it more fun, but that the silence of the electric planes allowed them to be flown more places.

I was riding home from work one day and saw something flying directly toward my head very fast. When it got closer I realized it was a hawk and I ducked at the last second as it flew right over me. I'm sure in reality it wasn't close enough to require ducking, but it was pretty close and that was my reaction.

Two teenage girls in string bikinis riding their bikes going to Seal Beach. Second would be Eagles that came in from Catalina Island, one flew a few feet above my head as it landed to meet his buddies at the crossover bridge from SGRT/Coyote Creek.

A heron landing in a tree with such amazing grace and precision and without any air traffic control or electronic guidance.
It just glided down, legs extended and landed in exactly the right place it wanted.
No messing.
a woman pull a u turn in traffic while dry humping her handle bars one handed. and fist pumping the air was pretty epic.

A 2 lane wide convoy of DMC 12s. I rode between them, underneath the opened gullwing doors.
This was at the Woodward Dream cruise.
Get this baby back on the rails.
Just got back from a ride. Never got that close to wild turkeys before. Eight hens running with me for a good 30 yards or so. Was surprised they didn't take off immediately. They seemed in disagreement as to which side of the road they wanted to escape to...they were split on either side before we passed them as they took flight. Got me to thinking how to best capture spur of the moment incidents on camera. GoPro? P&S?

I've seen a few gators, wild pigs, giraffe, camels, zebra, lots of turtles, and deer on rides. There are wild turkeys in my yard on a regular basis.

My commute used to take me along an abandoned road through a large patch of woods, and I've had a similar experience, though not with so many turkeys. Occasionally a couple of them would run along in front of me on the road, just weaving back and forth like they couldn't decide which side of the woods to hide in. I enjoyed watching them; they looked like little dinosaurs. :D

An escaped goat in a nice suburban neighborhood. He was quite content to amble about & eat the neighbor's plants. Women's pro beach volleyball practice in Huntington Beach. One of these gals worked at a local store. I'm 6', the top of my head barely reached the top of her shoulders. Must be very close to 7' without one wasted inch.

I passed a lone jogger while riding through Santa Fe one morning. Upon first glance he looked a lot like Forrest Gump during his run across the country with his long flowing grayish hair under a ball cap and a beard that would put Billy Gibbons to shame. I almost didn't notice how hairy his legs were due to the beautiful wedding dress he was wearing.

I was riding along at 12 mph and heard some one shout " on your left" as a jogger ran past me. :notamused:
Only rarely can I catch up to joggers on an uphill :( . I guess the coolest thing I've seen recently was this hawk just chillin' on the ground. He flew off and I hurried to see if he was eating, but nope, no crumbs.

I just love seeing any and all critters. I've seen all these things countless times but still get excited every time I see another. Well, except the coyote, that's the only one I've seen in person so far.

I saw a mother fox with two kits, one of which was all black. Very cool. They just sat there and watched me go by. I also rode by a coyote that was maybe 10 feet off the path just sitting and watching.
While climbing Lookout Mtn in Golden I had a skunk wander out in front of me. All I could do was pray that it wouldn't spray me.

Thank you.
I saw a large sofa type overstuffed chair sitting in the bike lane. Looked perfectly functional. Kinda tempting to stop, kick back and chill out a bit. But I would have probably got ran over. I also seen a ninja wheelchair guy about 4 in the morning during the winter. I heard a squeak, over and over but could not tell where it was coming from. I finally passed it and heard it behind me. Looking very carefully on the other side of the street close to the cars was an electric wheelchair, black, no lights, could have eaisly gotten run over.
