It rides AWESOME. Super frame...one of the best bikes ever made I say.

excuse my ignorance, but is it healthy for the rear derailleur to be stretched out that much?

No, its not healthy for the chain too. :)

A ProFlex with original Rapid Rise... that's not something you see every day. I had an 856 (still do, but it's not built up) with a very similar parts spec. It was a great ride, in its day.

I could have done it myself but I had plans to take it in to a dealer the next day to get a full tune-up - so I left it for them.

Cool, I've got a built up 857. Do yourself a favor and dump those boat anchor noleen coilover shocks.
I put some Risse racing shocks on mine and it made a world of difference. I also put easton carbon bar on it plus titec carbon seatpost, the re-engineered spinergy spox, profile carbon crank, xtr rear and front derailleur plus rocket shifters. Squadra saddle. Got the bike down to 22.5 lbs

There's a reason why they're not made anymore.

Not very good.
sweet looking bike. way to resurrect an old beast. i've got a 955 frame sitting around. still thinking about how im going to upgrade those elastomers. not a wide selection of rear shocks, and also i have the older strut. not sure about spending 3 bills on a new risse.

theres one in the back of my LBS and it has an elastomer that is not squishy :/

Neat looking bike but it's single-pivot... I'd think it would bounce like mad when you pedal out of the saddle.
nice bike, and great looking photos. must be a good digital camera.

I've had 2 ProFlexes. The rear suspension isn't very active when you're on the brakes. Any of you who have spent time on a Girvin fork probably understand the term "Girvin endo". Slow bumps that put your weight a little forward load the fork funny and the way the fork travels (kind of a on "J" shaped curve) the rebound can launch you over the bars. Laterally the fork is pretty stiff tho.

For XC they are the best... but don't take my word for it...

No such problems with this bike... just killer hill climbing powers and super plush ride

There's a reason why I let mine do a ghost ride down MT Snow back when I first got it. Don't have it now, it was the shortest I've ever owned 1 bike. 2 days hated it on the second day I sent it ghost riding down MT Snow got back to it and it was broken. That fork had the pedal feed back of a badly designed single pivot.

People on here don't have too much good to say about K2 or ProFlex bikes. Let's just remember who developed the first f/s bikes guys.... Leave it at that. I have both a K2 Flyin' Monkey & a ProFlex Beast. They both have brought me to where I am today in the sport.... I still own them, but rarely ride either. They were both tops in their day, and not many bikes can hold that claim.
I think your bike looks great man!

The 957 is still a great bike today - sure its older but I have riden many newer bikes, and my mates have riden my 957 and they really like it compared some new machines. Its not like Proflex was a Canadian Tire "supercycle" mistake like some of you guys make it sound like. To be honest I am a bit shocked with some of your statements...so blind and closed. I true MTBer wouldn't talk such rubbish.

This cracks me up. It's amazing how far brake technology has come and what used to be Top Of The Heap.

A well tuned and maintained psylo but with bike #2 that will be done and built by July there will be a Pike team on it. I switched from the Z1 I have for a reason, it made the bike lighter and it improved the issue I had with the nose height. The fork is narrower, but managed to gain more tire clearance Which means I can get a comp 32 to fit up front.
Don't want to follow any trends and get a stance/sherman, new Z1/66, I went with something I always wanted to try for a fork. To be honest the Z1 on the bike was the worst Z1 I have ever had, tried to set it up so it felt better. Got a year of use out of it and went for something different. I have successfully gotten close to getting the psylo set to the level of performance that my 2001 Z1 had. Just have to change the spring in it, which happens tomorrow and it will be set to my likings perfectly.
