I just started riding recently and I want to keep my bike in top shape without having to run over to my LBS for every little thing that could go wrong. Whats an easy to read *full of pictures* bike repair book? I've heard of one called the 'Big Blue Book of Bike Repair' but are there any others worth reading??

The bible of bicycle mechanics is Barnett's. Also Sheldon Brown's website.

I like Zinn's books. He has road and mtb maintainence books that are pretty clear with easy to understand pics.

During the Eisenhower administration, my father "banned" me from picking up a wrench, as only bad things ever resulted. But, even a "klutz" can understand "Zinn & the Art of Road Bike Maintenance", and it has helped me carry out the few, simple repairs that I can do myself, and Zinn helps me to communicate better at the LBS (I no longer say "The thinga-muh-bob came loose from the Do-hickey").
