I want to check out West Fork soon. How are the conditions? This road is still closed to auto traffic, right?

Hwy 39 is never closed to auto traffic unless there is an emergency situation.

Last time I was up there I saw kids on bikes and people on hybrids so I'm guessing it's good to go.

Oops, I was referring to West Fork being closed to traffic. That's still closed right?

Yes. West Fork has never been open to autos. The East Fork, however, is a road open to autos. East Fork will take you to GMR.

I checked out West Fork to the Cogswell Reservoir today. Yep, the road is gated. But not necessarily free of cars. I saw a small caravan of utility trucks (power company?) while going to and returning from the dam. So I kept my speed in check, with a lot of the subtle blind turns.

I think this would be a great ride for those with family/friends that don't ride a lot, just drive and park off hwy 39. The gradient was about 1-3% until you hit the dam with pitch in the teens, ouch.

This is the link that inspired me to go:
