Southern California - Can i ride with fresh road rash?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Would i be best letting it heal or can i use my neosporin and a tegaderm patch and just ride. Its on my knee.Should i assume the tegaderm goes right onto the abrasion itself or do i need a bandage and then tegaderm over that?thanks all

Don't put any other bandage under tegaderm- it will get extra icky and defeat the purpose. You want it to stay moist while it heals to avoid scarring. You can put a gauze wrap *over* the tegaderm to help keep it in place, and if you can find one of those mesh tubes that goes over bandages that will help keep it in place on things like elbows and knees.
I usually keep a 50 ft roll of tegaderm in the medicine cabinet. It's cheap direct from 3M. It's not sterile, but it's not exactly dirty, either. The precut boxed patches are sterile. Having everything I need for road rash in the house seems to reduce my chances of actually needing it-- it usually gets lent to friends.

I rode with some today(crashed on Monday, still hasn't healed), it worked OKish... there was lots of sweat underneath the patch and it started to peel off. I just put on another when I got home.

I wouldnt do it. You could catch the plague, HIV, obesity and even genital warts.

As long as you properly treat and protect your road rash, you are good to go.

Not a doctor but +1 to ^
Kind of late here but I crashed mtb'g and had a huge abrasion under my forearm from wrist up to my elbow plus 3 on my leg: 2 on knee, one to side of shin. I scrubbed the heck out of them, put on antibiotic ointment, non-stick padded them and wrapped with gauze. Rode two days later. I would've ridden the next day but I was too sore overall from the crash. Keep 'em clean and bandaged and go for it.
