256677256678256676Picked this up at a Garage Sale for only 20 bucks, I know the guy didnt even know what he had..This bike probably had'nt been ridden in over 15 years..Only thing I had to do to it was replace the tires and tubes install peddles, seat, computer and wipe it down..Never seen wheels like this before..They are curved in ??? and are made in Belgium, cant really make out the inscription. anyone know anything about them? I'm guessing this is an 85 model..It even still had the tire pump mounted on the top rail. Never used one so I put it away..

That was one of Specialized's top of the line at the time. The wheels are Weinmann Concave, not rare but not common either. Nice find.

Thanks, I was thinking of selling it, but the damn thing fits me nicely..so I may just hang on to it..The concave wheels concern me though, the spokes really punch through the rim tape..I havent had a issue with flats yet, but I really havent gone over 10 miles on this bike yet..I would like to put new tape on the wheels and the handlebars, maybe some new gatorskin tires.. This bike is surprisingly light..What I've researched on it, it was a highly sought after touring bike..What do you think its worth in its present condition?

Can't help you with the value, but that is a beautiful score.

Awesome score! IMHO one of the 'Holy Grail' Specialized bikes, next to an Expedition or a 3 Rensho Allez!
Velox rim tape (Fond de Jante) should do the trick on those Concaves; in the day they were considered to
be one of the strongest box section rims available. Lube each of the spoke nipples with a drop or two of
oil when you true the wheels. One other thing; keep a very close eye on that Superbe Tech rear
derailleur... they were prone to fail very quickly if not treated with the utmost respect. If you have one,
swap it with a Cyclone Mk II (or similar) and set that Superbe Tech aside for the display case.
If the frame fits you and you're comfortable cockpit wise, then most definitely keep it, if you can afford to.
Personally, I'd consider that bike a 'lifetime' bike... very rare, and appreciated by a select few who know
what it is.

This one went for $621. So I'd say you did pretty well for $20.

You should keep it but, if you have to sell it, I would say you could get an easy $300 on pretty much any Craigslist in the nation.

Thanks, I took it out for a 20 mi. spin, and quickly noticed the chain would slip or derail in the rear drivetrain area, and it would only do that when I was mashing on the pedals from a start off, couldnt really put my finger on the problem there, everything looks fine and it didnt do it constantly to be a major concern...I plan to take it to a LBS to have a go over..
