Foo - Can you live without the internet?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Seriously, think about it.

If not then how long do you think you can go without it?

Eddy Merckx won five Tours de France without the Internet. Are you saying you're better than Eddy?

I'd say a couple of hours.

A person could live without internet, but would life be worth living?

So far, my longest time without using the Internet has been 43 years.

A few seconds is the usual timeout before I'm spewing improprieties @ the internet company customer rep... My provider's phone number is on my speed dial list (no kidding), right next to my fiance's phone number.

The Energy company also has a spot on my speed dial, as lack of energy affects my internet connectivity. Thanks to a powerfull UPS, their time out is about 15 minutes.

My last call to the energy company was to report an outage... I also voiced my dissatisfaction with the waiting time of my call. The rep kindly suggested that to avoid long waiting times on the phone, I could use the web based system to report outages.... "really? the web page? with no power? to report an outage?".... improprieties followed.

I can, it's no biggie. I go days with not much more than enough cell service to send a text message to my wife letting her know I'm still alive. I'm an avid hunter and at my camp, we do have water and power, but zero television reception and no internet.

It's a nice break tbh.

Sometimes our internet has went out and the only reason I notice is because my sons will bother me about it. So yes I could live without it, not saying I'd want to, but I could.

Would certainly make my job more difficult since I spend a lot of time researching things on the internet.

Could live without it, can't work without it.

If I didn't have connectivity in my house and still had my 3G phone, that'd be fine

Just for the hell of it, I dared myself to not use it.. 1 week, no problems... It's just internet.

I can live without the internet. I've lived in places where the electricity would go down for days, sometimes weeks. During those times, I've adapted without my computer, TV, electric light, and hot water for quite a while. I've lived for over 20 years before I knew about the internet. So I would be able to live without it.

Yes, just as the Internet can live without me.

No, my mafia town would be raided mercilessly by rival mafia gangs and my starship fleet would be attacked!

I can flip right back to hunter gatherer mode in an instant, so yeah, I can do without the interwebz.

Yep; I lived without it for 26 years. I don't even NEED it at work. I NEVER use it at home, ever.

Although, I did meet my wife online, so that could have changed if it weren't for the 'net. Hmmmm...

I made it to 30-something without it...

Yes, in fact I often wish I could turn back time to 1992 or 93. No internet, no cell phones, life seemed a lot simpler then.

Yes.. work would be more difficult but I would manage if that means no more smart phones... I HATE SMART PHONES... they have turned most people into jerks. I stopped road riding because of people texting and using phones...its become dangerous out there. I frankly don't rely on either the internet or phones much... I like doing things "old school"... plus I can speak with peolpe and give them my full attention and use eye contact and everything!

I am growing to have a large dis-pleasure with cell phones and all these electronic gadgets that are just worthless. I actually did without one for a while but because of my heart condition and my soon to be greatly increased bicycle mileage I was forced to get another one.

I hate it but I have no choice.
