Foo - A question for the horologists (watch guys)

Just got my Seiko 5 Military with automatic movement. The back side is clear to see the insides. It appears to have a plastic film over it. Should I remove it? I picked at it a little and it seems to be pretty well attached to the glass.


A suggestion for you watch owners, and I'm not sure if this would be considered "fredly", but I had the crystal on my two watches covered in Ghost Armor. I was getting it put on my iPhone (because the screen protector I got at the Apple store was trashed) and the Ghost Armor guy said he would do my watches for $5 each. Came out great. Can't even tell it's there. Plus, if it does get scratched they will replace it for free. Seems like a good investment to protect your watch. Anyone else use a screen protector on your watches?

I was wondering if any of the watch geeks did that but didn't post the question. Glad to hear it turned out well. All this damned watch talk has me considering one for biking. I usually use my phone but I'm leaning towards downsizing that brick back to a flip phone (cheaper!)

That's the problem with all forums...people get to talking about things and all of a sudden you can't live without some new product you didn't even know existed. If not for this forum I'd probably still be riding my Fuji Newest 3.0. I'll keep an eye on the film, if it starts to bubble up I'll pull it off.

I don't use a protective cover for my watches. The mineral that comes with the Sekios and Citizen watches I have are pretty tough. The few scratches they do have are not noticeable. A month ago Tude and I were buying a bush for her mother and I scratched my Citizen moving it. I was bumbed out, big time. Tude couldn't even see the scratch on the watch. To tell you the truth, I can barely see it now.

I scratched an old Caravel pertty bad and actually had to get the crystal replaced. I figure for $5 with a lifetime warranty, why not? It was just a little kiosk at the mall.

The film on the display back can be peeled off without any problems. You can leave it there as long as you want but it won't last forever. I am reasonably careful with my watches and don't seem to have a problem with scratches so I don't worry about the crystals.
